² He grew up before him like a tender shoot,^(A)
    and like a root^(B) out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
    nothing in his appearance^(C) that we should desire him.
³ He was despised and rejected by mankind,
    a man of suffering,^(D) and familiar with pain.^(E)
Like one from whom people hide^(F) their faces
    he was despised,^(G) and we held him in low esteem.

⁴ Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,^(H)
yet we considered him punished by God,^(I)
    stricken by him, and afflicted.^(J)
5 But he was pierced^(K) for our transgressions,^(L)
    he was crushed^(M) for our iniquities;
the punishment^(N) that brought us peace^(O) was on him,
    and by his wounds^(P) we are healed.^(Q)

⁹ Their descendants^(A) will be known among the nations
    and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
    that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”^(B)

¹⁰ I delight greatly in the Lord;
    my soul rejoices^(C) in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
    and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,^(D)
as a bridegroom adorns his head^(E) like a priest,
    and as a bride^(F) adorns herself with her jewels.
