Isaiah 50:4-9

God’s faithful servant

⁴The Lord God gave me an educated tongue
    to know how to respond to the weary
    with a word that will awaken them in the morning.^[a]
    God awakens my ear in the morning to listen,
    as educated people do.
⁵The Lord God opened my ear;
    I didn’t rebel; I didn’t turn my back.
⁶Instead, I gave my body to attackers,
    and my cheeks to beard pluckers.
I didn’t hide my face
    from insults and spitting.
⁷The Lord God will help me;
    therefore, I haven’t been insulted.
Therefore, I set my face like flint,
    and knew I wouldn’t be ashamed.
⁸The one who will declare me innocent is near.
    Who will argue with me?
Let’s stand up together.
    Who will bring judgment against me?
    Let him approach me.
⁹Look! The Lord God will help me.
    Who will condemn me?
Look, they will wear out like clothing;
    the moth will eat them.

70 Hurry, God, to deliver me;
    hurry, Lord, to help me!
²Let those who seek my life be ashamed and humiliated!
    Let them fall back and be disgraced—
        those people who delight in my downfall!
³Let those who say, “Aha! Aha!”
    stop because of their shameful behavior.
⁴But let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you,
    and let those who love your saving help say again and again:
        “God is great!”
⁵But me? I’m poor and needy.
    Hurry to me, God!
You are my helper and my deliverer.
    Oh, Lord, don’t delay!

Hebrews 12:1-3

Let’s also run the race

12 So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, ²and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.

Run the race with discipline

³Think about the one who endured such opposition from sinners so that you won’t be discouraged and you won’t give up.

Announcement of the betrayal

²¹After he said these things, Jesus was deeply disturbed and testified, “I assure you, one of you will betray me.”

²²His disciples looked at each other, confused about which of them he was talking about. ²³One of the disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was at Jesus’ side. ²⁴Simon Peter nodded at him to get him to ask Jesus who he was talking about. ²⁵Leaning back toward Jesus, this disciple asked, “Lord, who is it?”

²⁶Jesus answered, “It’s the one to whom I will give this piece of bread once I have dipped into the bowl.”Then he dipped the piece of bread and gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son. ²⁷After Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” ²⁸No one sitting at the table understood why Jesus said this to him. ²⁹Some thought that, since Judas kept the money bag, Jesus told him, “Go, buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. ³⁰So when Judas took the bread, he left immediately. And it was night.

Love commandment

³¹When Judas was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Human One^[a] has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. ³²If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify the Human One^[b] in himself and will glorify him immediately.
