Isaiah 50:2-10
New International Version
2 When I came, why was there no one?
When I called, why was there no one to answer?(A)
Was my arm too short(B) to deliver you?
Do I lack the strength(C) to rescue you?
By a mere rebuke(D) I dry up the sea,(E)
I turn rivers into a desert;(F)
their fish rot for lack of water
and die of thirst.
3 I clothe the heavens with darkness(G)
and make sackcloth(H) its covering.”
4 The Sovereign Lord(I) has given me a well-instructed tongue,(J)
to know the word that sustains the weary.(K)
He wakens me morning by morning,(L)
wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.(M)
5 The Sovereign Lord(N) has opened my ears;(O)
I have not been rebellious,(P)
I have not turned away.
6 I offered my back to those who beat(Q) me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;(R)
I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting.(S)
7 Because the Sovereign Lord(T) helps(U) me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,(V)
and I know I will not be put to shame.(W)
8 He who vindicates(X) me is near.(Y)
Who then will bring charges against me?(Z)
Let us face each other!(AA)
Who is my accuser?
Let him confront me!
9 It is the Sovereign Lord(AB) who helps(AC) me.
Who will condemn(AD) me?
They will all wear out like a garment;
the moths(AE) will eat them up.
