²³ In that day,^(A) in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels,^[a](B) there will be only briers and thorns.^{(C) 24} Hunters will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers^(D) and thorns. ²⁵ As for all the hills^(E) once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns;^(F) they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.^(G)

¹¹ This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,^(A) and these nations will serve^(B) the king of Babylon seventy years.^(C)

The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth

¹⁹ They set fire^(A) to God’s temple^(B) and broke down the wall^(C) of Jerusalem; they burned all the palaces and destroyed^(D) everything of value there.^(E)

²⁰ He carried into exile^(F) to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants^(G) to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. ²¹ The land enjoyed its sabbath rests;^(H) all the time of its desolation it rested,^(I) until the seventy years^(J) were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.

⁶ They have power to shut up the heavens^(A) so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying;^(B) and they have power to turn the waters into blood^(C) and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.

⁶ and who have fallen^[a] away, to be brought back to repentance.^(A) To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God^(B) all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. ⁷ Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. ⁸ But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed.^(C) In the end it will be burned.

²⁴ They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled^(A) on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

¹⁶ Then the survivors^(A) from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship^(B) the King,^(C) the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.^{(D) 17} If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship^(E) the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain.^(F)
