    opening its mouth wide.
The great and the lowly
    and all the drunken mob will be swallowed up.

⁵ Wealth^[a] is treacherous,
    and the arrogant are never at rest.
They open their mouths as wide as the grave,^[b]
    and like death, they are never satisfied.
In their greed they have gathered up many nations
    and swallowed many peoples.

    the thirsty desert,
    the blazing fire.

²⁰ Just as Death and Destruction^[a] are never satisfied,
    so human desire is never satisfied.

³³ Topheth—the place of burning—
    has long been ready for the Assyrian king;
    the pyre is piled high with wood.
The breath of the Lord, like fire from a volcano,
    will set it ablaze.
