24 (A)Can the prey be taken from the mighty man,
Or the captives of the [a]righteous be granted escape?”

25 Surely, thus says Yahweh,

“Even the (B)captives of the mighty man will be taken away,
And the prey of the tyrant will be granted escape;
For I will contend with the one who contends with you,
And I will (C)save your sons.
26 I will feed (D)those who mistreat you with their (E)own flesh,
And they will become drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine;
And (F)all flesh will know that I, Yahweh, am your (G)Savior
And your (H)Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

  1. Isaiah 49:24 DSS and ancient versions tyrant, cf. 49:25

24 Can plunder be taken from a mighty man?
Can captives be rescued from a tyrant?[a]
25 This is what the Lord says.
Even from a mighty man captives can be taken,
and the victims of a tyrant can be rescued.
So I myself will contend with the one who contends with you,
and I myself will save your children.
26 I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh.
They will get drunk on the new wine of their own blood.
So all flesh will know that I am the Lord, your Savior
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
