Good News Translation
Israel, A Light to the Nations
49 (A)Listen to me, distant nations,
you people who live far away!
Before I was born, the Lord chose me
and appointed me to be his servant.
2 (B)He made my words as sharp as a sword.
With his own hand he protected me.[a]
He made me like an arrow,
sharp and ready for use.
3 He said to me, “Israel, you are my servant;
because of you, people will praise me.”
4 I said, “I have worked, but how hopeless it is!
I have used up my strength, but have accomplished nothing.”
Yet I can trust the Lord to defend my cause;
he will reward me for what I do.
5 Before I was born, the Lord appointed me;
he made me his servant to bring back his people,
to bring back the scattered people of Israel.
The Lord gives me honor;
he is the source of my strength.
6 (C)The Lord said to me,
“I have a greater task for you, my servant.
Not only will you restore to greatness
the people of Israel who have survived,
but I will also make you a light to the nations—
so that all the world may be saved.”
7 Israel's holy God and savior says
to the one who is deeply despised,
who is hated by the nations
and is the servant of rulers:
“Kings will see you released
and will rise to show their respect;
princes also will see it,
and they will bow low to honor you.”
This will happen because the Lord has chosen his servant;
the holy God of Israel keeps his promises.
The Restoration of Jerusalem
8 (D)The Lord says to his people,
“When the time comes to save you, I will show you favor
and answer your cries for help.
I will guard and protect you
and through you make a covenant with all peoples.
I will let you settle once again
in your land that is now laid waste.
9 I will say to the prisoners, ‘Go free!’
and to those who are in darkness,
‘Come out to the light!’
They will be like sheep that graze on the hills;
10 (E)they will never be hungry or thirsty.
Sun and desert heat will not hurt them,
for they will be led by one who loves them.
He will lead them to springs of water.
11 “I will make a highway across the mountains
and prepare a road for my people to travel.
12 My people will come from far away,
from the north and the west,
and from Aswan[b] in the south.”
13 Sing, heavens! Shout for joy, earth!
Let the mountains burst into song!
The Lord will comfort his people;
he will have pity on his suffering people.
14 But the people of Jerusalem said,
“The Lord has abandoned us!
He has forgotten us.”
15 So the Lord answers,
“Can a woman forget her own baby
and not love the child she bore?
Even if a mother should forget her child,
I will never forget you.
16 Jerusalem, I can never forget you!
I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
17 “Those who will rebuild you are coming soon,
and those who destroyed you will leave.
18 Look around and see what is happening!
Your people are assembling—they are coming home!
As surely as I am the living God,
you will be proud of your people,
as proud as a bride is of her jewels.
19 “Your country was ruined and desolate—
but now it will be too small
for those who are coming to live there.
And those who left you in ruins
will be far removed from you.
20 Your people who were born in exile
will one day say to you,
‘This land is too small—
we need more room to live in!’
21 Then you will say to yourself,
‘Who bore all these children for me?
I lost my children and could have no more.
I was exiled and driven away—
who brought these children up?
I was left all alone—
where did these children come from?’”
22 (F)The Sovereign Lord says to his people:
“I will signal to the nations,
and they will bring your children home.
23 Kings will be like fathers to you;
queens will be like mothers.
They will bow low before you and honor you;
they will humbly show their respect for you.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
no one who waits for my help will be disappointed.”
24 Can you take away a soldier's loot?
Can you rescue the prisoners of a tyrant?
25 The Lord replies,
“That is just what is going to happen.
The soldier's prisoners will be taken away,
and the tyrant's loot will be seized.
I will fight against whoever fights you,
and I will rescue your children.
26 I will make your oppressors kill each other;
they will be drunk with murder and rage.
Then all people will know that I am the Lord,
the one who saves you and sets you free.
They will know that I am Israel's powerful God.”

他又使我成为磨亮的箭，
把我藏在他的箭袋里。
3 他对我说：“你是我的仆人以色列，
我要借着你得荣耀。”
4 但我说：“我劳碌是徒然的；
我用尽气力，是虚无虚空的；
然而我当得的公理是在耶和华那里，
我的赏赐是在我的 神那里。”
5 现在，耶和华说：
（他自我还在母胎的时候，就造了我作他的仆人，
好使雅各回转归向他，使以色列可以聚集到他那里；
我在耶和华眼中被看为尊贵，
我的 神是我的力量。）
6 “你作我的仆人，
使雅各众支派复兴，使以色列中得保全的归回，只是小事，
我还要使你作列国的光，
使我的救恩传到地极。”

11 我必使我的众山成为道路，
我的大道都必被修高。
12 看哪！有些人从远方而来；
看哪！有些从北方，从西方而来，

我的主忘记了我。”

16 看哪！我已经把你刻在我的掌上；
你的城墙常常在我面前。

看哪！我独自一人被撇下，
这些孩子是从哪里来的呢？’”
22 主耶和华这样说：
“看哪！我必向列国举手，
我要向万民竖立我的旗帜；
他们要把你的儿子都抱在怀中带来，
把你的女儿都放在肩上背来。
23 列国的君王要作你的养父，
他们的王后必作你的保姆；
他们必脸伏于地向你下拜，
舐你脚上的尘土。
那么，你就知道我是耶和华，
那些仰望我的决不会羞愧。”
24 被抢去的怎能从勇士手中夺回呢？
被俘掳的怎能从强暴者（按照《马索拉文本》，“强暴者”作“义者”；现参照《死海古卷》和其他古译本翻译）的手里救出来呢？
25 但耶和华这样说：
“就是勇士所俘掳的，也可以夺回，
强暴者所抢去的，也可以救出来；
与你相争的，我必与他们相争；
你的儿女，我却要拯救。
26 我要使那些欺压你的人，吃自己的肉；
他们必喝自己的血醉倒，好象喝了甜酒一样；
那么所有的人都必知道，我耶和华是你的拯救者，
是你的救赎主，是雅各的大能者。”

49 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;
3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.
4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.
5 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.
6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.
7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
8 Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.
10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.
11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.
12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.
13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.
14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.
18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.
19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.
20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
22 Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

49 Hỡi các hải đảo,[a] hãy nghe Ta;
Hỡi các dân xa xôi, hãy chú ý.
CHÚA đã kêu gọi tôi từ trong bụng mẹ,
Đã công bố[b] tên tôi khi tôi còn trong lòng mẹ.
2 Ngài làm miệng tôi như lưỡi gươm sắc bén
Và che tôi trong bóng tay Ngài.
Ngài làm tôi thành mũi tên sáng loáng,
Và giấu tôi trong bao đựng tên của Ngài.
3 Ngài phán cùng tôi: “Ngươi là tôi tớ Ta.
Hỡi Y-sơ-ra-ên, Ta sẽ được vinh quang nơi ngươi.”
4 Và tôi tự bảo: “Tôi đã lao lực luống công;
Tôi đã tổn sức hư không và vô ích.
Nhưng thật vậy, lẽ công bình của tôi ở nơi CHÚA,

6 Ngài cũng phán:
“Ngươi làm tôi tớ Ta

Ta sẽ làm cho ngươi như ánh sáng cho các nước,

7 CHÚA, Đấng Cứu Chuộc,
Đấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán
Cùng người bị người ta khinh bỉ, bị các nước[e] ghê tởm,
Cùng kẻ tôi tớ của các kẻ cai trị, như vầy:
“Các vua sẽ thấy ngươi và đứng dậy,
Các hoàng tử sẽ quỳ lạy
Vì CHÚA, Đấng Trung Tín,
Đấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã chọn ngươi.”
8 CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Trong thì thuận tiện Ta đã đáp lời ngươi;
Trong ngày cứu rỗi Ta đã giúp đỡ ngươi.
Ta sẽ gìn giữ ngươi, làm cho ngươi
Thành giao ước của dân
Để phục hồi đất,
Để phân chia các di sản hoang tàn;
9 Để bảo những phu tù: ‘Hãy đi ra;’
Những kẻ ở trong tối tăm: ‘Hãy chiếu sáng.’
Họ sẽ được chăn giữ trên đường đi
Và mọi đồi trọc sẽ trở nên đồng cỏ cho họ.
10 Họ sẽ không đói, không khát;
Hơi nóng và mặt trời cũng sẽ không thiêu đốt họ
Vì Đấng thương xót họ sẽ hướng dẫn,
Ngài sẽ dắt họ đến bên suối nước.
11 Ta sẽ làm mọi núi Ta thành đường đi
Và các đường cái Ta sẽ được xây dựng.

Hay không thương xót con trai một mình sao?
Dù những người này có thể quên,
Nhưng chính Ta sẽ không quên ngươi.
16 Này, Ta đã khắc ngươi trong lòng bàn tay Ta;
Các tường thành ngươi vẫn tiếp tục ở trước mặt Ta.
17 Các con trai[g] ngươi sẽ nhanh nhẹn đến;

Và những kẻ ăn nuốt ngươi sẽ cách xa ngươi.
20 Những đứa con trong thời ngươi mất mát người thân
Sẽ nói vào tai ngươi:
Chỗ này chật quá cho tôi,
Hãy nới rộng cho tôi ở.
21 Nhưng ngươi tự hỏi trong lòng rằng:
‘Ai đã sinh những đứa này cho tôi?
Tôi đã mất hết con cái, đã bị son sẻ,
Bị lưu đày và từ bỏ.
Ai đã nuôi dưỡng những đứa này?
Kìa, ta đã bị bỏ mặc một mình,
Những đứa này từ đâu đến?’ ”
22 CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Này, Ta sẽ giơ tay trên các nước,
Giương cờ trên các dân
Thì chúng sẽ bồng các con trai ngươi trong lòng
Và các con gái ngươi trên vai mà đến.
23 Các vua sẽ là cha nuôi ngươi
Và các hoàng hậu sẽ là vú em của ngươi.
Họ sẽ cúi mặt xuống đất lạy ngươi
Và liếm bụi chân ngươi,
Rồi ngươi sẽ biết rằng Ta là CHÚA,
Những ai trông cậy Ta sẽ không hổ thẹn.”
24 Có thể nào người ta lấy chiến lợi phẩm của dũng sĩ
Hay giải cứu các tù binh từ người dũng mãnh[h] được chăng?
25 Vì CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Phải, tù binh của dũng sĩ sẽ bị lấy đi,
Chiến lợi phẩm của người dũng mãnh sẽ được giải cứu.
Ta sẽ tranh đấu với kẻ đấu tranh chống ngươi
Và Ta sẽ giải cứu con cái ngươi.
26 Ta sẽ làm cho những kẻ áp bức ngươi ăn thịt mình,
Chúng nó sẽ say máu mình như say rượu.
Và cả nhân loại[i] sẽ biết rằng:
Ta là CHÚA, Đấng Cứu Rỗi ngươi,
Đấng Cứu Chuộc ngươi và là Đấng Quyền Năng của Gia-cốp.”
