49 Listen to me, O coastlands;
    pay attention, you peoples from far away!
The Lord called me before I was born;
    while I was in my mother’s womb he named me.^(A)

² Thus says the Lord who made you,
    who formed you in the womb and will help you:
Do not fear, O Jacob my servant,
    Jeshurun whom I have chosen.^(A)

³ Incline your ear, and come to me;
    listen, so that you may live.
I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
    my steadfast, sure love for David.^(A)

42 Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
    my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him;
    he will bring forth justice to the nations.^(A)
2 He will not cry out or lift up his voice
    or make it heard in the street;
³ a bruised reed he will not break,
    and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
    he will faithfully bring forth justice.^(B)
4 He will not grow faint or be crushed
    until he has established justice in the earth,
    and the coastlands wait for his teaching.^(C)

⁵ For you, O Lord, are my hope,
    my trust, O Lord, from my youth.^(A)
6 From my birth I have leaned upon you,
    my protector since my mother’s womb.^[a]
My praise is continually of you.^(B)
