Isaiah 48:5-7

⁵^(A)I declared them to you from of old,
before they came to pass I announced them to you,
lest you should say, ^(B)‘My idol did them,
my carved image and my metal image commanded them.’

⁶“You have heard; now see all this;
    and will you not declare it?
From this time forth ^(C)I announce to you new things,
    hidden things that you have not known.
⁷They are created now, not long ago;
    before today you have never heard of them,
    lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’

⁵Therefore I told you these things long ago;
    before they happened I announced^(A) them to you
so that you could not say,
    ‘My images brought them about;^(B)
    my wooden image and metal god ordained them.’
⁶You have heard these things; look at them all.
    Will you not admit them?

“From now on I will tell you of new things,^(C)
    of hidden things unknown to you.
⁷They are created^(D) now, and not long ago;^(E)
    you have not heard of them before today.
So you cannot say,
    ‘Yes, I knew^(F) of them.’
