Isaiah 45:17-25

New King James Version

¹⁷^(A)But Israel shall be saved by the Lord
With an ^(B)everlasting salvation;
You shall not be ashamed or ^(C)disgraced
Forever and ever.

¹⁸For thus says the Lord,
^(D)Who created the heavens,
Who is God,
Who formed the earth and made it,
Who has established it,
Who did not create it ^[a]in vain,
Who formed it to be ^(E)inhabited:
^(F)“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
¹⁹I have not spoken in ^(G)secret,
In a dark place of the earth;
I did not say to the seed of Jacob,
‘Seek Me ^[b]in vain’;
^(H)I, the Lord, speak righteousness,
I declare things that are right.

²⁰“Assemble yourselves and come;
Draw near together,
You who have escaped from the nations.
^(I)They have no knowledge,
Who carry the wood of their carved image,
And pray to a god that cannot save.
²¹Tell and bring forth your case;
Yes, let them take counsel together.
^(J)Who has declared this from ancient time?
Who has told it from that time?
Have not I, the Lord?
^(K)And there is no other God besides Me,
A just God and a Savior;
There is none besides Me.

²²“Look to Me, and be saved,
^(L)All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
²³^(M)I have sworn by Myself;
The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness,
And shall not return,
That to Me every ^(N)knee shall bow,
^(O)Every tongue shall take an oath.
²⁴He shall say,
^[c]‘Surely in the Lord I have ^(P)righteousness and strength.
To Him men shall come,
And ^(Q)all shall be ashamed
Who are incensed against Him.
²⁵^(R)In the Lord all the descendants of Israel
Shall be justified, and ^(S)shall glory.’ ”

A Samaritan Woman Meets Her Messiah

4 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and ^(A)baptized more disciples than John ²(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), ³He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. ⁴But He needed to go through Samaria.

⁵So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that ^(B)Jacob ^(C)gave to his son Joseph. ⁶Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

⁷A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” ⁸For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

⁹Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For ^(D)Jews have no dealings with ^(E)Samaritans.

¹⁰Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the ^(F)gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you ^(G)living water.”

¹¹The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? ¹²Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

¹³Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, ¹⁴but ^(H)whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him ^(I)will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

¹⁵^(J)The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

¹⁶Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

¹⁷The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”

Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ ¹⁸for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

¹⁹The woman said to Him, “Sir, ^(K)I perceive that You are a prophet. ²⁰Our fathers worshiped on ^(L)this mountain, and you Jews say that in ^(M)Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

²¹Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming ^(N)when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. ²²You worship ^(O)what you do not know; we know what we worship, for ^(P)salvation is of the Jews. ²³But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will ^(Q)worship the Father in ^(R)spirit ^(S)and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. ²⁴^(T)God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah ^(U)is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, ^(V)He will tell us all things.”

²⁶Jesus said to her, ^(W)“I who speak to you am He.”

Glorify God in Body and Spirit

¹²^(A)All things are lawful for me, but all things are not ^[a]helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of ^[b]any. ¹³^(B)Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for ^(C)sexual immorality but ^(D)for the Lord, ^(E)and the Lord for the body. ¹⁴And ^(F)God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up ^(G)by His power.

¹⁵Do you not know that ^(H)your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! ¹⁶Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For ^(I)“the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” ¹⁷^(J)But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

¹⁸^(K)Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins ^(L)against his own body. ¹⁹Or ^(M)do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, ^(N)and you are not your own? ²⁰For ^(O)you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body ^[c]and in your spirit, which are God’s.
