44 “Ṣùgbọ́n gbọ́ nísinsin yìí, ìwọ Jakọbu ìránṣẹ́ mi
àti Israẹli, ẹni tí mo ti yàn.
2 Ohun tí Olúwa wí nìyìí
ẹni tí ó dá ọ, ẹni tí ó ti mọ̀ ọ́n
láti inú ìyá rẹ wá,
àti ẹni tí yóò ràn ọ́ lọ́wọ́ pẹ̀lú:
Má ṣe bẹ̀rù, ìwọ Jakọbu, ìránṣẹ́ mi,
Jeṣuruni ẹni tí mo ti yàn.
3 Nítorí èmi yóò da omi sí ilẹ̀ tí ń pòǹgbẹ
àti àwọn odò ní ilẹ̀ gbígbẹ;
Èmi yóò tú Ẹ̀mí mi sí ara àwọn ọmọ rẹ,
àti ìbùkún mi sórí àwọn àrọ́mọdọ́mọ rẹ.
4 Wọn yóò dàgbàsókè gẹ́gẹ́ bí i koríko nínú pápá oko tútù,
àti gẹ́gẹ́ bí igi Poplari létí odò tí ń sàn.
5 Ọ̀kan yóò wí pé, ‘Èmi jẹ́ ti Olúwa’;
òmíràn yóò pe ara rẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí orúkọ Jakọbu;
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni òmíràn yóò kọ ọ́ sí ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ‘Ti Olúwa,’
yóò sì máa jẹ́ orúkọ náà Israẹli.
Olúwa ni, kì í ṣe ère òrìṣà
6 (A)“Ohun tí Olúwa wí nìyìí
ọba Israẹli àti Olùdáǹdè, àní
Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun:
Èmi ni ẹni àkọ́kọ́ àti ẹni ìgbẹ̀yìn,
lẹ́yìn mi kò sí Ọlọ́run kan.
7 Ta ni ó dàbí ì mi? Jẹ́ kí o kéde rẹ̀.
Jẹ́ kí ó wí kí ó sì gbé síwájú mi
Kí ni ó ti ṣẹlẹ̀ láti ìgbà tí mo fi ìdí
àwọn ènìyàn ìṣẹ̀ǹbáyé kalẹ̀,
àti kí ni ohun tí ń sì ń bọ̀
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, jẹ́ kí ó sọ àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ ohun tí ń bọ̀ wá.
8 Má ṣe wárìrì, má ṣe bẹ̀rù.
Ǹjẹ́ èmi kò ti kéde èyí tí mo sì ti sọ
àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ tipẹ́tipẹ́?
Ẹ̀yin ni ẹlẹ́rìí mi. Ǹjẹ́ Ọlọ́run kan
ha ń bẹ lẹ́yìn mi?
Bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, kò sí àpáta mìíràn; Èmi kò mọ ọ̀kankan.”
9 Gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbẹ́ ère jásí asán,
àti àwọn ohun tí wọn ń kó pamọ́
kò jámọ́ nǹkan kan.
Àwọn tí yóò sọ̀rọ̀ fún wọn fọ́ lójú;
wọ́n jẹ́ aláìmọ̀kan sí ìtìjú ara wọn.
10 Ta ni ó mọ òrìṣà kan tí ó sì ya ère,
tí kò lè mú èrè kankan wá fún un?
11 Òun àti nǹkan rẹ̀ wọ̀nyí ni a ó dójútì;
àwọn oníṣọ̀nà kò yàtọ̀, ènìyàn ni wọ́n.
Jẹ́ kí gbogbo wọn gbárajọ kí wọ́n sì
fi ìdúró wọn hàn;
gbogbo wọn ni a ó mú bọ́ sínú Ìpayà àti àbùkù.
12 Alágbẹ̀dẹ mú ohun èlò,
ó fi ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú èédú;
ó fi òòlù ya ère kan,
ó ṣe é pẹ̀lú agbára apá rẹ̀,
Ebi ń pa á, àárẹ̀ sì mú un;
kò mu omi rárá, ìrẹ̀wẹ̀sì dé bá a.
13 Gbẹ́nàgbẹ́nà fi ìwọ̀n wọ́n ọ́n
ó sì fi lẹ́ẹ̀dì ṣe ààmì sí ara rẹ̀,
Ó tún fi ìfà fá a jáde
ó tún fi òṣùwọ̀n ṣe ààmì sí i.
Ó gbẹ́ ẹ ní ìrí ènìyàn
gẹ́gẹ́ bí ènìyàn nínú ògo rẹ̀,
kí ó lè máa gbé nínú ilé òrìṣà.
14 Ó gé igi kedari lulẹ̀,
tàbí bóyá ó mú sípírẹ́ṣì tàbí igi óákù.
Ó jẹ́ kí ó dàgbà láàrín àwọn igi inú igbó,
ó sì le gbin igi páínì, èyí tí òjò mú kí ó dàgbà.
15 Ohun èlò ìdáná ni fún ènìyàn;
díẹ̀ nínú rẹ̀ ni ó mú láti mú kí
ara rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ọ́rọ́,
ó dá iná ó sì fi ṣe àkàrà.
Ṣùgbọ́n bákan náà ni ó ṣe òrìṣà tí ó sì ń sìn ín;
ó yá ère, ó sì ń foríbalẹ̀ fún un.
16 Ìlàjì igi náà ni ó jó nínú iná;
lórí i rẹ̀ ni ó ti ń tọ́jú oúnjẹ rẹ̀,
ó dín ẹran rẹ̀ ó sì jẹ àjẹyó.
Ó tún mú ara rẹ̀ gbóná ó sì sọ pé,
“Á à! Ara mi gbóná, mo rí iná.”
17 Nínú èyí tí ó kù ni ó ti ṣe òrìṣà, ère rẹ̀;
ó foríbalẹ̀ fún un, ó sì sìn ín.
Ó gbàdúrà sí i, ó wí pé,
“Gbà mí, ìwọ ni Ọlọ́run mi.”
18 Wọn kò mọ nǹkan kan, nǹkan kan kò yé wọn;
a fi ìbòjú bo ojú wọn, wọn kò lè rí nǹkan kan;
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àyà wọn sébọ́, wọn kò lè mọ nǹkan kan.
19 Kò sí ẹni tí ó dúró láti ronú,
kò sí ẹni tí ó ní ìmọ̀ tàbí òye
láti sọ wí pé,
“Ìlàjì rẹ̀ ni mo fi dáná;
Mo tilẹ̀ ṣe àkàrà lórí èédú rẹ̀,
Mo dín ẹran, mo sì jẹ ẹ́.
Ǹjẹ́ ó wá yẹ kí n ṣe ohun ìríra kan
nínú èyí tí ó ṣẹ́kù bí?
Ǹjẹ́ èmi yóò ha foríbalẹ̀ fún ìtì igi?”
20 Ó ń jẹ eérú, ọkàn ẹlẹ́tàn ni ó ṣì í lọ́nà;
òun kò lè gba ara rẹ̀ là, tàbí kí ó wí pé
“Ǹjẹ́ nǹkan tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ ọ̀tún mi yìí irọ́ kọ́?”
21 “Rántí àwọn nǹkan wọ̀nyí, ìwọ Jakọbu
nítorí ìránṣẹ́ mi ni ìwọ, ìwọ Israẹli.
Èmi ti dá ọ, ìránṣẹ́ mi ni ìwọ ṣe,
ìwọ Israẹli, Èmi kì yóò gbàgbé rẹ.
22 Èmi ti gbá gbogbo ìkùnà rẹ dànù bí i kurukuru,
àwọn ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ bí ìrì òwúrọ̀.
Padà sọ́dọ̀ mi,
nítorí mo ti rà ọ́ padà.”
23 (B)Kọrin fáyọ̀, ẹ̀yin ọ̀run, nítorí Olúwa ló ti ṣe èyí;
kígbe sókè, ìwọ ilẹ̀ ayé nísàlẹ̀.
Bú sí orin, ẹ̀yin òkè ńlá,
ẹ̀yin igbó àti gbogbo igi yín,
nítorí Olúwa ti ra Jakọbu padà,
ó ti fi ògo rẹ̀ hàn ní Israẹli.
A ó tún máa gbé Jerusalẹmu
24 “Ohun tí Olúwa wí nìyìí
Olùràpadà rẹ tí ó mọ ọ́
láti inú ìyá rẹ wá:
“Èmi ni Olúwa
tí ó ti ṣe ohun gbogbo
tí òun nìkan ti na àwọn ọ̀run
tí o sì tẹ́ ayé pẹrẹsẹ òun tìkára rẹ̀,
25 (C)ta ni ó ba ààmì àwọn wòlíì èké jẹ́
tí ó sì sọ àwọn aláfọ̀ṣẹ di òmùgọ̀,
tí ó dojú ìmọ̀ àwọn ọlọ́gbọ́n délẹ̀
tí ó sì sọ wọ́n di òmùgọ̀,
26 ẹni tí ó gbé ọ̀rọ̀ àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀ jáde
tí ó sì mú àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ wá sí ìmúṣẹ,
“ẹni tí ó wí nípa ti Jerusalẹmu pé, ‘a ó máa gbé inú rẹ̀,’
àti ní ti àwọn ìlú Juda, ‘A ó tún kọ́,’
àti àwọn ahoro rẹ̀, ‘Èmi yóò mú un bọ̀ sípò,’
27 ta ni ó sọ fún omi jíjìn pé, ‘Ìwọ gbẹ,
èmi yóò sì mú omi odò rẹ gbẹ,’
28 ta ni ó sọ nípa Kirusi pé, ‘Òun ni Olùṣọ́-àgùntàn mi
àti pé òun yóò ṣe ohun gbogbo tí mo fẹ́;
òun yóò sọ nípa Jerusalẹmu pé, “Jẹ́ kí a tún kọ́,”
àti nípa tẹmpili, “Jẹ́ kí a fi ìpìlẹ̀ rẹ̀ lé ilẹ̀.” ’ ”

God’s Blessing on Israel
44 “Yet hear now, O Jacob My servant,
And Israel whom I have chosen.
2 Thus says the Lord who made you
And formed you from the womb, who will help you:
‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant;
And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
And floods on the dry ground;
I will pour My Spirit on your descendants,
And My blessing on your offspring;
4 They will spring up among the grass
Like willows by the watercourses.’
5 One will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’;
Another will call himself by the name of Jacob;
Another will write with his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’
And name himself by the name of Israel.
There Is No Other God
6 “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel,
And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
(A)‘I am the First and I am the Last;
Besides Me there is no God.
7 And (B)who can proclaim as I do?
Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me,
Since I appointed the ancient people.
And the things that are coming and shall come,
Let them show these to them.
8 Do not fear, nor be afraid;
(C)Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
(D)You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed (E)there is no other Rock;
I know not one.’ ”
Idolatry Is Foolishness
9 (F)Those who make an image, all of them are useless,
And their precious things shall not profit;
They are their own witnesses;
(G)They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed.
10 Who would form a god or mold an image
(H)That profits him nothing?
11 Surely all his companions would be (I)ashamed;
And the workmen, they are mere men.
Let them all be gathered together,
Let them stand up;
Yet they shall fear,
They shall be ashamed together.
12 (J)The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals,
Fashions it with hammers,
And works it with the strength of his arms.
Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails;
He drinks no water and is faint.
13 The craftsman stretches out his rule,
He marks one out with chalk;
He fashions it with a plane,
He marks it out with the compass,
And makes it like the figure of a man,
According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house.
14 He cuts down cedars for himself,
And takes the cypress and the oak;
He [a]secures it for himself among the trees of the forest.
He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it.
15 Then it shall be for a man to burn,
For he will take some of it and warm himself;
Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread;
Indeed he makes a god and worships it;
He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
16 He burns half of it in the fire;
With this half he eats meat;
He roasts a roast, and is satisfied.
He even warms himself and says,
“Ah! I am warm,
I have seen the fire.”
17 And the rest of it he makes into a god,
His carved image.
He falls down before it and worships it,
Prays to it and says,
“Deliver me, for you are my god!”
18 (K)They do not know nor understand;
For (L)He has [b]shut their eyes, so that they cannot see,
And their hearts, so that they cannot (M)understand.
19 And no one (N)considers in his heart,
Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say,
“I have burned half of it in the fire,
Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals;
I have roasted meat and eaten it;
And shall I make the rest of it an abomination?
Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”
20 He feeds on ashes;
(O)A deceived heart has turned him aside;
And he cannot deliver his soul,
Nor say, “Is there not a (P)lie in my right hand?”
Israel Is Not Forgotten
21 “Remember these, O Jacob,
And Israel, for you are My servant;
I have formed you, you are My servant;
O Israel, you will not be (Q)forgotten by Me!
22 (R)I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions,
And like a cloud, your sins.
Return to Me, for (S)I have redeemed you.”
23 (T)Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it!
Shout, you lower parts of the earth;
Break forth into singing, you mountains,
O forest, and every tree in it!
For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
And (U)glorified Himself in Israel.
Judah Will Be Restored
24 Thus says the Lord, (V)your Redeemer,
And (W)He who formed you from the womb:
“I am the Lord, who makes all things,
(X)Who stretches out the heavens [c]all alone,
Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;
25 Who (Y)frustrates the signs (Z)of the babblers,
And drives diviners mad;
Who turns wise men backward,
(AA)And makes their knowledge foolishness;
26 (AB)Who confirms the word of His servant,
And performs the counsel of His messengers;
Who says to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be inhabited,’
To the cities of Judah, ‘You shall be built,’
And I will raise up her waste places;
27 (AC)Who says to the deep, ‘Be dry!
And I will dry up your rivers’;
28 Who says of (AD)Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd,
And he shall perform all My pleasure,
Saying to Jerusalem, (AE)“You shall be built,”
And to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid.” ’

2 Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?
11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
21 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the Lord hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
24 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

The Lord Is the Only God
44 The Lord says, “People of Jacob, you are my servants. Listen to me!
People of Israel, I chose you.”
2 This is what the Lord says. He made you.
He formed you when you were in your mother’s body.
And he will help you.
The Lord says, “People of Jacob, my servants, don’t be afraid.
Israel, I chose you.
3 I will pour out water for the thirsty land.
I will make streams flow on dry land.
I will put my Spirit into your children.
My blessing will be like a stream of water flowing over your family.
4 Your children will grow like a tree in the grass.
They will be like poplar trees growing beside streams of water.
5 One person will say, ‘I belong to the Lord.’
Another will use the name Jacob.
Another will sign his name ‘I am the Lord’s.’
And another will use the name Israel.”
6 The Lord is the king of Israel.
The Lord of heaven’s armies saves Israel.
The Lord says, “I am the beginning and the end.
I am the only God.
7 There is no other God like me.
If there is, then that god should come and prove it.
Who has announced coming events from the beginning?
He should tell what will happen in the future.
8 Don’t be afraid! Don’t worry!
I have always told you what will happen.
You are my witnesses.
There is no other God.
I know of no other Rock. I am the only One.”
False Gods Are Useless
9 Some people make idols, but they are worth nothing.
People love them, but they are useless.
Those people are witnesses for the statues. But those people cannot see.
They know nothing. They don’t know enough to be ashamed.
10 Who made these false gods?
Who made these useless idols?
11 The workmen who made those gods will be ashamed!
Those workmen are only human.
If they all would come together,
they would all be ashamed and afraid.
12 One workman uses tools to heat iron.
He works over hot coals.
He uses his hammer to beat the metal and make a statue.
He uses his powerful arms.
But when he becomes hungry, he loses his power.
If he does not drink water, he becomes tired.
13 Another workman uses a line and a compass
to draw lines on the wood.
Then he uses his chisels to cut a statue from wood.
He uses his calipers to measure the statue.
This way, the workman makes the wood look exactly like a man.
And this statue of a man sits in the house.
14 A man cuts down cedar
or gets cypress or oak trees.
Those trees grew by their own power in the forest.
Or he plants a pine tree, and the rain makes it grow.
15 Then he burns the tree.
He uses some of the wood for a fire to keep himself warm.
He also starts a fire to bake his bread.
But he uses part of the wood to make a god. Then he worships it!
He makes the idol and bows down to it!
16 The man burns half of the wood in the fire.
He uses the fire to cook his meat.
And he eats the meat until he is full.
He burns the wood to keep himself warm. He says,
“Good! Now I am warm. I can see because of the fire’s light.”
17 But the man makes a statue from the wood that is left. He calls it his god.
He bows down to it and worships it.
He prays to it and says,
“You are my god. Save me!”
18 Those people don’t know what they are doing. They don’t understand!
It is as if their eyes are covered so they can’t see.
Their minds don’t understand.
19 They have not thought about these things.
They don’t understand.
They have never thought to themselves,
“I burned half of the wood in the fire.
I used the hot coals to bake my bread.
I cooked and ate my meat.
And I used the wood that was left to make this hated thing.
I am worshiping a block of wood!”
20 He doesn’t know what he is doing.
His confused mind leads him the wrong way.
He cannot save himself.
He cannot say, “This statue I am holding is a false god.”
The Lord Is the True God
21 The Lord says, “People of Jacob, remember these things!
People of Israel, remember you are my servants.
I made you. You are my servants.
So Israel, I will not forget you.
22 I have swept away your sins like a big cloud.
I have removed your sins like a cloud that disappears into the air.
Come back to me because I saved you.”
23 Skies, sing for joy because the Lord did great things!
Earth, shout for joy, even in your deepest parts!
Sing, you mountains, with thanks to God.
Sing, too, you trees in the forest!
The Lord saved the people of Jacob!
The Lord showed his greatness when he saved Israel.
24 The Lord saved you.
He formed you while you were still in your mother’s body.
The Lord says, “I, the Lord, made everything!
I alone stretched out the skies.
I spread out the earth by myself.
25 I show that the lying prophets’ signs are false.
I make fools of those who do magic.
I confuse even wise men.
They think they know much, but I make them look foolish.
26 I make the messages of my servants come true.
I make the advice of my messengers come true.
I say to Jerusalem,
‘People will live in you again!’
I say to the towns of Judah,
‘You will be built again!’
I say to Jerusalem’s ruins,
‘I will repair you.’
27 I tell the deep waters, ‘Become dry!
I will make your streams become dry!’
28 I say of Cyrus,[a] ‘He is my shepherd.
He will do all that I want him to do.
He will say to Jerusalem, “You will be built again!”
He will tell the Temple, “Your foundations will be rebuilt.”’”

he who made(C) you, who formed you in the womb,(D)
and who will help(E) you:
Do not be afraid,(F) Jacob, my servant,(G)
Jeshurun,[a](H) whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water(I) on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;(J)
I will pour out my Spirit(K) on your offspring,
and my blessing(L) on your descendants.(M)
4 They will spring up like grass(N) in a meadow,
like poplar trees(O) by flowing streams.(P)
5 Some will say, ‘I belong(Q) to the Lord’;
others will call themselves by the name of Jacob;
still others will write on their hand,(R) ‘The Lord’s,’(S)
and will take the name Israel.
The Lord, Not Idols
6 “This is what the Lord says—
Israel’s King(T) and Redeemer,(U) the Lord Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last;(V)
apart from me there is no God.(W)
7 Who then is like me?(X) Let him proclaim it.
Let him declare and lay out before me
what has happened since I established my ancient people,
and what is yet to come—
yes, let them foretell(Y) what will come.
8 Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
Did I not proclaim(Z) this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God(AA) besides me?
No, there is no other Rock;(AB) I know not one.”
9 All who make idols(AC) are nothing,
and the things they treasure are worthless.(AD)
Those who would speak up for them are blind;(AE)
they are ignorant, to their own shame.(AF)
10 Who shapes a god and casts an idol,(AG)
which can profit nothing?(AH)
11 People who do that will be put to shame;(AI)
such craftsmen are only human beings.
Let them all come together and take their stand;
they will be brought down to terror and shame.(AJ)
12 The blacksmith(AK) takes a tool
and works with it in the coals;
he shapes an idol with hammers,
he forges it with the might of his arm.(AL)
He gets hungry and loses his strength;
he drinks no water and grows faint.(AM)
13 The carpenter(AN) measures with a line
and makes an outline with a marker;
he roughs it out with chisels
and marks it with compasses.
He shapes it in human form,(AO)
human form in all its glory,
that it may dwell in a shrine.(AP)
14 He cut down cedars,
or perhaps took a cypress or oak.
He let it grow among the trees of the forest,
or planted a pine,(AQ) and the rain made it grow.
15 It is used as fuel(AR) for burning;
some of it he takes and warms himself,
he kindles a fire and bakes bread.
But he also fashions a god and worships(AS) it;
he makes an idol and bows(AT) down to it.
16 Half of the wood he burns in the fire;
over it he prepares his meal,
he roasts his meat and eats his fill.
He also warms himself and says,
“Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.(AU)”
17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
he bows down to it and worships.(AV)
He prays(AW) to it and says,
“Save(AX) me! You are my god!”
18 They know nothing, they understand(AY) nothing;
their eyes(AZ) are plastered over so they cannot see,
and their minds closed so they cannot understand.
19 No one stops to think,
no one has the knowledge or understanding(BA) to say,
“Half of it I used for fuel;(BB)
I even baked bread over its coals,
I roasted meat and I ate.
Shall I make a detestable(BC) thing from what is left?
Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”(BD)
20 Such a person feeds on ashes;(BE) a deluded(BF) heart misleads him;
he cannot save himself, or say,
“Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?(BG)”
21 “Remember(BH) these things, Jacob,
for you, Israel, are my servant.(BI)
I have made you, you are my servant;(BJ)
Israel, I will not forget you.(BK)
22 I have swept away(BL) your offenses like a cloud,
your sins like the morning mist.
Return(BM) to me,
for I have redeemed(BN) you.”
23 Sing for joy,(BO) you heavens, for the Lord has done this;
shout aloud, you earth(BP) beneath.
Burst into song, you mountains,(BQ)
you forests and all your trees,(BR)
for the Lord has redeemed(BS) Jacob,
he displays his glory(BT) in Israel.
Jerusalem to Be Inhabited
I am the Lord,
the Maker of all things,
who stretches out the heavens,(BX)
who spreads out the earth(BY) by myself,
25 who foils(BZ) the signs of false prophets
and makes fools of diviners,(CA)
who overthrows the learning of the wise(CB)
and turns it into nonsense,(CC)
26 who carries out the words(CD) of his servants
and fulfills(CE) the predictions of his messengers,
who says of Jerusalem,(CF) ‘It shall be inhabited,’
of the towns of Judah, ‘They shall be rebuilt,’
and of their ruins,(CG) ‘I will restore them,’(CH)
27 who says to the watery deep, ‘Be dry,
and I will dry up(CI) your streams,’
28 who says of Cyrus,(CJ) ‘He is my shepherd
and will accomplish all that I please;
he will say of Jerusalem,(CK) “Let it be rebuilt,”
and of the temple,(CL) “Let its foundations(CM) be laid.”’
