Isaiah 42:23-25
New American Standard Bible
23 Who among you will listen to this?
Who will pay attention and listen in the time to come?
24 Who gave Jacob up for spoils, and Israel to plunderers?
Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned,
And in whose ways they (A)were not willing to walk,
And whose Law they did not (B)obey?
25 So He poured out on him the heat of His anger
And the (C)fierceness of battle;
And it set him aflame all around,
Yet he did not recognize it;
And it burned him, but he [a](D)paid no attention.

God Punishes Israel
24 “Who handed Jacob over to looters,
and Israel to robbers?
Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned?
After all, they weren’t willing to walk in his ways,
and they wouldn’t obey[b] his instruction,
25 so he drenched him with[c] the heat that is his anger,[d]
the violence of war.
It enveloped him in flames,
but still he had no insight.
It burned him up,
but he didn’t take it to heart.”
