The Babylonian king’s messengers
39 At that time, Babylon’s King Merodach-baladan, Baladan’s son, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he heard that he had been ill and had recovered. 2 Hezekiah was pleased, and he showed them his treasury—the silver and the gold, the spices and fine oil—and everything in his armory, all that was found in his storerooms. There wasn’t a thing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah didn’t show them.
3 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say? Where did they come from?”
Hezekiah replied, “They came to me from a distant land, from Babylon.”
4 So Isaiah said, “What did they see in your house?”
Hezekiah said, “They saw everything in my house. There was nothing in my storerooms that I didn’t show them.”
5 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of heavenly forces: 6 Days are coming when all that is in your house, which your ancestors have stored up until this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 7 Some of your sons, your own descendants whom you fathered, will be taken to become eunuchs in the king of Babylon’s palace.”
8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Lord’s word that you delivered is good,” since he thought, That means there will be peace and security in my lifetime.

39 En aquel tiempo Merodac Baladán hijo de Baladán, rey de Babilonia, envió cartas y un regalo a Ezequías, porque supo que había estado enfermo y que se había recuperado. 2 Ezequías se alegró al recibir esto, y mostró a los mensajeros todos sus tesoros: la plata, el oro, las especias, el aceite fino, todo su arsenal y todo lo que había en ellos. No hubo nada en su palacio ni en todo su reino que Ezequías no les mostrara.
3 Entonces el profeta Isaías fue a ver al rey Ezequías y le preguntó:
―¿Qué querían esos hombres? ¿De dónde vinieron?
―De un país lejano —respondió Ezequías—. Vinieron a verme desde Babilonia.
4 ―¿Y qué vieron en tu palacio? —preguntó el profeta.
―Vieron todo lo que hay en él —contestó Ezequías—. No hay nada en mis tesoros que yo no les haya mostrado.
5 Entonces Isaías le dijo:
―Oye la palabra del Señor Todopoderoso: 6 “Sin duda vendrán días en que todo lo que hay en tu palacio, y todo lo que tus antepasados atesoraron hasta el día de hoy, será llevado a Babilonia. No quedará nada —dice el Señor—. 7 Y algunos de tus hijos y de tus descendientes serán llevados para servir como eunucos en el palacio del rey de Babilonia”.
8 ―El mensaje del Señor que tú me has traído es bueno —respondió Ezequías.
Y es que pensaba: «Al menos, mientras yo viva habrá paz y seguridad».
