Fertile wilderness
35 The desert and the dry land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom like the crocus.
2 They will burst into bloom,
and rejoice with joy and singing.
They will receive the glory of Lebanon,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon.
They will see the Lord’s glory,
the splendor of our God.
3 Strengthen the weak hands,
and support the unsteady knees.
4 Say to those who are panicking:
“Be strong! Don’t fear!
Here’s your God,
coming with vengeance;
with divine retribution
God will come to save you.”
5 Then the eyes of the blind will be opened,
and the ears of the deaf will be cleared.
6 Then the lame will leap like the deer,
and the tongue of the speechless will sing.
Waters will spring up in the desert,
and streams in the wilderness.
7 The burning sand will become a pool,
and the thirsty ground, fountains of water.
The jackals’ habitat, a pasture;[a]
grass will become reeds and rushes.
8 A highway will be there.
It will be called The Holy Way.
The unclean won’t travel on it,
but it will be for those walking on that way.[b]
Even fools won’t get lost on it;
9 no lion will be there,
and no predator will go up on it.
None of these will be there;
only the redeemed will walk on it.
10 The Lord’s ransomed ones will return and enter Zion with singing,
with everlasting joy upon their heads.
Happiness and joy will overwhelm them;
grief and groaning will flee away.

Die Freude der Erlösten Israels über die Rettung des Herrn
35 Die Wüste und Einöde wird sich freuen, und die Steppe wird frohlocken und blühen wie ein Narzissenfeld.
2 Sie wird lieblich blühen und frohlocken, ja, es wird Frohlocken und Jubel geben; denn die Herrlichkeit des Libanon wird ihr gegeben, die Pracht des Karmel und der Saron[-Ebene]. Sie werden die Herrlichkeit des Herrn sehen, die Pracht unseres Gottes.
3 Stärkt die schlaff gewordenen Hände und macht fest die strauchelnden Knie;
4 sagt zu denen, die ein verzagtes Herz haben: Seid tapfer und fürchtet euch nicht! Seht, da ist euer Gott! Die Rache kommt, die Vergeltung Gottes; er selbst kommt und wird euch retten!
5 Dann werden die Augen der Blinden aufgetan und die Ohren der Tauben geöffnet werden;
6 dann wird der Lahme springen wie ein Hirsch und die Zunge des Stummen lobsingen; denn es werden Wasser in der Wüste hervorbrechen und Ströme in der Einöde.
7 Der glutheiße Boden wird zum Teich und das dürre Land zu Wasserquellen. Wo zuvor die Schakale wohnten und lagerten, wird ein Gehege für Rohr und Schilf sein.
8 Und eine Straße wird dort sein und ein Weg; man wird ihn den heiligen Weg[a] nennen; kein Unreiner wird auf ihm gehen, sondern er ist für sie; die auf dem Weg wandeln, selbst Einfältige, werden nicht irregehen.
9 Dort wird es keinen Löwen geben, und kein Raubtier wird zu ihm herankommen oder dort angetroffen werden, sondern die Losgekauften werden darauf gehen.
10 Und die Erlösten des Herrn werden zurückkehren und nach Zion kommen mit Jauchzen. Ewige Freude wird über ihrem Haupt sein; Wonne und Freude werden sie erlangen, aber Kummer und Seufzen werden entfliehen!

35 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.
3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.
4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.
8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:
10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

35 The desert(A) and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.(B)
Like the crocus,(C) 2 it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.(D)
The glory of Lebanon(E) will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel(F) and Sharon;(G)
they will see the glory(H) of the Lord,
the splendor of our God.(I)
3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees(J) that give way;
4 say(K) to those with fearful hearts,(L)
“Be strong, do not fear;(M)
your God will come,(N)
he will come with vengeance;(O)
with divine retribution
he will come to save(P) you.”
5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened(Q)
and the ears of the deaf(R) unstopped.
6 Then will the lame(S) leap like a deer,(T)
and the mute tongue(U) shout for joy.(V)
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams(W) in the desert.
7 The burning sand will become a pool,
the thirsty ground(X) bubbling springs.(Y)
In the haunts where jackals(Z) once lay,
grass and reeds(AA) and papyrus will grow.
8 And a highway(AB) will be there;
it will be called the Way of Holiness;(AC)
it will be for those who walk on that Way.
The unclean(AD) will not journey on it;
wicked fools will not go about on it.

they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed(AG) will walk there,
10 and those the Lord has rescued(AH) will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;(AI)
