Isaiah 35:5-10

⁵^(A)Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
⁶^(B)then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
    and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.
^(C)For waters break forth in the wilderness,
    and streams in the desert;
⁷^(D)the burning sand shall become a pool,
    and the thirsty ground springs of water;
in the haunt of ^(E)jackals, where they lie down,
    the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

⁸^(F)And a highway shall be there,
    and it shall be called the Way of Holiness;
^(G)the unclean shall not pass over it.
    It shall belong to those who walk on the way;
    even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.^[a]
⁹No lion shall be there,
    nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;
they shall not be found there,
    but the redeemed shall walk there.
¹⁰^(H)And the ransomed of the Lord shall return
    and come to Zion with singing;
^(I)everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
    they shall obtain gladness and joy,
    and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

¹⁴But ^(A)thanks be to God, who in Christ always ^(B)leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads ^(C)the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. ¹⁵For we are the aroma of Christ to God among ^(D)those who are being saved and among ^(E)those who are perishing, ¹⁶^(F)to one a fragrance from death to death, ^(G)to the other a fragrance from life to life. ^(H)Who is sufficient for these things? ¹⁷For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

Zechariah's Prophecy

⁶⁷And his father Zechariah ^(A)was filled with the Holy Spirit and ^(B)prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸^(C)“Blessed be the Lord ^(D)God of Israel,
    for he has ^(E)visited and ^(F)redeemed his people
⁶⁹and ^(G)has raised up ^(H)a horn of salvation for us
    ^(I)in the house of his servant David,
⁷⁰^(J)as ^(K)he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
⁷¹^(L)that we should be saved from our enemies
    and from the hand of all who hate us;
⁷²^(M)to show the mercy promised to our fathers
    and ^(N)to remember his holy ^(O)covenant,
⁷³^(P)the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
⁷⁴    that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
might serve him ^(Q)without fear,

⁷⁶And you, child, will be called ^(T)the prophet of ^(U)the Most High;
    for ^(V)you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
