Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem

3 For behold, the ^(A)Lord God of hosts
    is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah
support and supply,^[a]
    all ^(B)support of bread,
    and all support of water;
²^(C)the mighty man and the soldier,
    the judge and the prophet,
    the diviner and the elder,
³the captain of fifty
    and the man of rank,
the counselor and the skillful magician
    and the expert in charms.
⁴^(D)And I will make boys their princes,
    and infants^[b] shall rule over them.
⁵^(E)And the people will oppress one another,
    every one his fellow
    and every one his neighbor;
the youth will be insolent to the elder,
    and the despised to the honorable.

⁶For ^(F)a man will take hold of his brother
    in the house of his father, saying:
“You have a cloak;
    you shall be our leader,
and this heap of ruins
    shall be under your rule”;
⁷in that day he will speak out, saying:
“I will not be a ^(G)healer;^[c]
    in my house there is neither bread nor cloak;
you shall not make me
    leader of the people.”
⁸For Jerusalem has stumbled,
    and Judah has fallen,
because their ^(H)speech and their deeds are against the Lord,
    ^(I)defying his glorious presence.^[d]

⁹For the look on their faces bears witness against them;
    they proclaim their sin ^(J)like Sodom;
    they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
    ^(K)For they have brought evil on themselves.
¹⁰^(L)Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them,
    ^(M)for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
¹¹^(N)Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him,
    for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.
¹²My people—^(O)infants are their oppressors,
    and women rule over them.
O my people, ^(P)your guides mislead you
    and they have swallowed up^[e] the course of your paths.

¹³The Lord ^(Q)has taken his place to contend;
    he stands to judge peoples.
¹⁴The Lord will enter into judgment
    with the ^(R)elders and princes of his people:
“It is you who ^(S)have devoured^[f] the vineyard,
    ^(T)the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
¹⁵What do you mean by ^(U)crushing my people,
    by grinding the face of the poor?”
declares the Lord God of hosts.

¹⁶The Lord said:
^(V)Because ^(W)the daughters of Zion are haughty
    and walk with outstretched necks,
    glancing wantonly with their eyes,
mincing along as they go,
    ^(X)tinkling with their feet,
¹⁷therefore the Lord ^(Y)will strike with a scab
    the heads of ^(Z)the daughters of Zion,
    and the Lord will lay bare their secret parts.

¹⁸In that day the Lord will take away ^(AA)the finery of the anklets, the ^(AB)headbands, and the ^(AC)crescents; ¹⁹the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves; ²⁰the ^(AD)headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; ²¹the signet rings and ^(AE)nose rings; ²²the ^(AF)festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags; ²³the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.

²⁴Instead of ^(AG)perfume there will be rottenness;
    and instead of a ^(AH)belt, a rope;
and instead of ^(AI)well-set hair, ^(AJ)baldness;
    and instead of a rich robe, a ^(AK)skirt of sackcloth;
    and ^(AL)branding instead of beauty.
²⁵Your men shall fall by the sword
    and your mighty men in battle.
²⁶And ^(AM)her gates shall lament and mourn;
    empty, she shall ^(AN)sit on the ground.

4 ^(AO)And seven women ^(AP)shall take hold of ^(AQ)one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; ^(AR)take away our reproach.”

The Branch of the Lord Glorified

²In that day ^(AS)the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and ^(AT)the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. ³^(AU)And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called ^(AV)holy, everyone who has ^(AW)been recorded for life in Jerusalem, ⁴when ^(AX)the Lord shall have washed away the filth of ^(AY)the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by ^(AZ)a spirit of burning.^[g] ⁵Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies ^(BA)a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be ^(BB)a canopy. ⁶^(BC)There will be a ^(BD)booth for shade by day from the heat, and ^(BE)for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain.

Mark 1:23-45

²³And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, ²⁴^(A)“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? ^(B)I know who you are—^(C)the Holy One of God.” ²⁵But Jesus ^(D)rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” ²⁶And the unclean spirit, ^(E)convulsing him and ^(F)crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. ²⁷And they were all ^(G)amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? ^(H)A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” ²⁸And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

Jesus Heals Many

²⁹^(I)And immediately he^[a] ^(J)left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. ³⁰Now ^(K)Simon's mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. ³¹And he came and ^(L)took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

³²That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or ^(M)oppressed by demons. ³³And the whole city was gathered together at the door. ³⁴^(N)And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And ^(O)he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

³⁵^(P)And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and ^(Q)there he prayed. ³⁶And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, ³⁷and they found him and said to him, ^(R)“Everyone is looking for you.” ³⁸And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for ^(S)that is why I came out.” ³⁹^(T)And ^(U)he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Jesus Cleanses a Leper

⁴⁰^(V)And a leper^[b] came to him, imploring him, and ^(W)kneeling said to him, ^(X)“If you will, you can make me clean.” ⁴¹Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” ⁴²And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. ⁴³And ^(Y)Jesus^[c] sternly charged him and sent him away at once, ⁴⁴and said to him, ^(Z)“See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, ^(AA)show yourself to the priest and ^(AB)offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, ^(AC)for a proof to them.” ⁴⁵^(AD)But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter ^(AE)a town, but was out in ^(AF)desolate places, and ^(AG)people were coming to him from every quarter.
