13 The Lord takes his place in court;(A)
    he rises to judge(B) the people.
14 The Lord enters into judgment(C)
    against the elders and leaders of his people:
“It is you who have ruined my vineyard;
    the plunder(D) from the poor(E) is in your houses.
15 What do you mean by crushing my people(F)
    and grinding(G) the faces of the poor?”(H)
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.(I)

16 The Lord says,
    “The women of Zion(J) are haughty,
walking along with outstretched necks,(K)
    flirting with their eyes,
strutting along with swaying hips,
    with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion;
    the Lord will make their scalps bald.(L)

18 In that day(M) the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,(N) 19 the earrings and bracelets(O) and veils,(P) 20 the headdresses(Q) and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, 21 the signet rings and nose rings,(R) 22 the fine robes and the capes and cloaks,(S) the purses 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments(T) and tiaras(U) and shawls.

24 Instead of fragrance(V) there will be a stench;(W)
    instead of a sash,(X) a rope;
instead of well-dressed hair, baldness;(Y)
    instead of fine clothing, sackcloth;(Z)
    instead of beauty,(AA) branding.(AB)
25 Your men will fall by the sword,(AC)
    your warriors in battle.(AD)
26 The gates(AE) of Zion will lament and mourn;(AF)
    destitute,(AG) she will sit on the ground.(AH)

In that day(AI) seven women
    will take hold of one man(AJ)
and say, “We will eat our own food(AK)
    and provide our own clothes;
only let us be called by your name.
    Take away our disgrace!”(AL)

The Branch of the Lord

In that day(AM) the Branch of the Lord(AN) will be beautiful(AO) and glorious, and the fruit(AP) of the land will be the pride and glory(AQ) of the survivors(AR) in Israel. Those who are left in Zion,(AS) who remain(AT) in Jerusalem, will be called holy,(AU) all who are recorded(AV) among the living in Jerusalem. The Lord will wash away the filth(AW) of the women of Zion;(AX) he will cleanse(AY) the bloodstains(AZ) from Jerusalem by a spirit[a] of judgment(BA) and a spirit[b] of fire.(BB) Then the Lord will create(BC) over all of Mount Zion(BD) and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night;(BE) over everything the glory[c](BF) will be a canopy.(BG) It will be a shelter(BH) and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge(BI) and hiding place from the storm(BJ) and rain.

The Song of the Vineyard

I will sing for the one I love
    a song about his vineyard:(BK)
My loved one had a vineyard
    on a fertile hillside.
He dug it up and cleared it of stones
    and planted it with the choicest vines.(BL)
He built a watchtower(BM) in it
    and cut out a winepress(BN) as well.
Then he looked for a crop of good grapes,
    but it yielded only bad fruit.(BO)

“Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah,
    judge between me and my vineyard.(BP)
What more could have been done for my vineyard
    than I have done for it?(BQ)
When I looked for good grapes,
    why did it yield only bad?(BR)
Now I will tell you
    what I am going to do to my vineyard:
I will take away its hedge,
    and it will be destroyed;(BS)
I will break down its wall,(BT)
    and it will be trampled.(BU)
I will make it a wasteland,(BV)
    neither pruned nor cultivated,
    and briers and thorns(BW) will grow there.
I will command the clouds
    not to rain(BX) on it.”

The vineyard(BY) of the Lord Almighty
    is the nation of Israel,
and the people of Judah
    are the vines he delighted in.
And he looked for justice,(BZ) but saw bloodshed;
    for righteousness,(CA) but heard cries of distress.(CB)

Woes and Judgments

Woe(CC) to you who add house to house
    and join field to field(CD)
till no space is left
    and you live alone in the land.

The Lord Almighty(CE) has declared in my hearing:(CF)

“Surely the great houses will become desolate,(CG)
    the fine mansions left without occupants.
10 A ten-acre vineyard will produce only a bath[d] of wine;
    a homer[e] of seed will yield only an ephah[f] of grain.”(CH)
