Isaiah 29:12-14
Christian Standard Bible Anglicised
12 And if the document is given to one who cannot read and he is asked to read it,[a] he will say, ‘I can’t read.’
13 The Lord said:
These people approach me with their speeches(A)
to honour me with lip-service,[b]
yet their hearts are far from me,
and human rules direct their worship of me.[c]
14 Therefore, I will again confound these people
with wonder after wonder.(B)
The wisdom of their wise will vanish,(C)
and the perception of their perceptive will be hidden.
Isaiah 29:12-14
English Standard Version
12 And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read.”
13 And the Lord said:
“Because (A)this people (B)draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, (C)I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and (D)the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”
