²¹ For the Lord will rise up as at Mount ^(A)Perazim,
He will be stirred up as in the Valley of ^(B)Gibeon,
To do His ^(C)task, His ^[a](D)unusual task,
And to work His work, His ^[b]extraordinary work.

² I will bring distress to Ariel,
And she will be a city of grieving and ^(A)mourning;
And she will be like an ^[a]Ariel to me.
³ I will ^(B)camp against you ^[b]encircling you,
And I will set up siegeworks against you,
And I will raise up battle towers against you.

²⁷ Behold, ^(A)the name of the Lord comes from a ^[a]remote place;
^(B)His anger is burning and ^[b]dense with ^[c]smoke;
His lips are filled with ^(C)indignation,
And His tongue is like a ^(D)consuming fire;
²⁸ His ^(E)breath is like an overflowing river,
Which ^(F)reaches to the neck,
To ^(G)shake the nations back and forth in a ^[d]sieve,
And to put in the jaws of the peoples ^(H)the bridle which leads astray.
²⁹ You will have ^[e]songs as in the night when you keep the festival,
And gladness of heart as when one marches to the sound of the flute,
To go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel.
³⁰ And the Lord will cause ^[f]His voice of authority to be heard,
And the ^[g]descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger,
And in the flame of a consuming fire
In cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones.
³¹ For ^(I)at the voice of the Lord ^(J)Assyria will be terrified,
When He strikes with the ^(K)rod.
³² And every ^[h]blow of the ^[i](L)rod of punishment,
Which the Lord will lay on him,
Will be with the music of ^(M)tambourines and lyres;
And in battles, ^(N)brandishing weapons, He will fight them.
³³ For ^[j](O)Topheth has long been ready,
Indeed, it has been prepared for the king.
He has made it deep and large,
^[k]A pyre of fire with plenty of wood;
The ^(P)breath of the Lord, like a torrent of ^(Q)brimstone, sets it afire.

² For the Lord’s ^(A)anger is against all the nations,
And His wrath against all their armies.
He has ^[a](B)utterly destroyed them,
He has turned them over to ^(C)slaughter.
³ So their slain will be ^(D)thrown out,
And their corpses ^[b]will give off their ^(E)stench,
And the mountains will ^[c]be drenched with their ^(F)blood.
⁴ And ^(G)all the heavenly ^[d]lights will ^[e]wear away,
And the ^(H)sky will be rolled up like a scroll;
All its ^[f]lights will also wither away
As a leaf withers from the vine,
Or as one withers from the fig tree.
⁵ For ^(I)My sword has drunk its fill in heaven;
Behold it shall descend for judgment upon ^(J)Edom,
And upon the people whom I have ^(K)designated for destruction.
⁶ The sword of the Lord is filled with blood,
It drips with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice in ^(L)Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of ^(M)Edom.
