Isaiah 28:20
English Standard Version
20 For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on,
and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.
Romans 9:24-33
English Standard Version
24 even us whom he (A)has called, (B)not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles? 25 As indeed he says in Hosea,
(C)“Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’
and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”
26 (D)“And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called (E)‘sons of the living God.’”
27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: (F)“Though the number of the sons of Israel[a] be as the sand of the sea, (G)only a remnant of them will be saved, 28 for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” 29 And as Isaiah predicted,
(H)(I)“If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring,
(J)we would have been like Sodom
and become like Gomorrah.”
Israel's Unbelief
30 What shall we say, then? (K)That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, (L)a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel (M)who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness[b] (N)did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the (O)stumbling stone, 33 as it is written,
(P)“Behold, I am laying in Zion (Q)a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;
(R)and whoever believes in him will not be (S)put to shame.”

1 Peter 2:4-10
English Standard Version
4 As you come to him, a living stone (A)rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 (B)you yourselves like living stones are being built up as (C)a spiritual house, to be (D)a holy priesthood, (E)to offer spiritual sacrifices (F)acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in Scripture:
(G)“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
(H)and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
7 So the honor is for you who (I)believe, but for those who (J)do not believe,
8 and
(L)“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, (M)as they were destined to do.
9 But you are (N)a chosen race, (O)a royal (P)priesthood, (Q)a holy nation, (R)a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you (S)out of darkness into (T)his marvelous light. 10 (U)Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
