Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men, that rule this people, which is at Jerusalem.

Because ye have said, We have made a [a]covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge run over, and pass through, it shall not come at us: for we have made [b]falsehood our refuge, and under vanity are we hid,

Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lay in Zion a stone, a [c]tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation. He that believeth, [d]shall not make haste.

Judgment also will I lay to the rule, and [e]righteousness to the balance, and the [f]hail shall sweep away the vain confidence, and the waters shall overflow [g]the secret place.

And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall run over and pass through, then shall ye be trodden down by it.

When it passeth over, it shall take you away: for it shall pass through every morning in the day and in the night, and there shall be only [h]fear, to make you to understand the hearing.

For the bed is [i]strait, that it cannot suffice, and the covering narrow, that one cannot wrap himself.

For the Lord shall stand as in mount [j]Perazim: he shall be wroth as in the valley [k]of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work, and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

Now therefore be no mockers, lest your bonds increase: for I have heard of the Lord of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
