6 In days to come[a] Jacob shall take root,
Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots,
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7 Has he struck them down as he struck down those who struck them?
Or have they been killed as their killers were killed?
8 By expulsion,[b] by exile you struggled against them;
with his fierce blast he removed them in the day of the east wind.
9 Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated,
and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:
when he makes all the stones of the altars
like chalkstones crushed to pieces,
no sacred poles[c] or incense altars will remain standing.
10 For the fortified city is solitary,
a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness;
the calves graze there,
there they lie down, and strip its branches.
11 When its boughs are dry, they are broken;
women come and make a fire of them.
For this is a people without understanding;
therefore he that made them will not have compassion on them,
he that formed them will show them no favor.
12 On that day the Lord will thresh from the channel of the Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you will be gathered one by one, O people of Israel. 13 And on that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

7 Il Signore ha colpito il suo popolo come ha colpito quelli che colpivano lui? L’ha forse ucciso come ha ucciso quelli che uccidevano lui?
8 Tu l’hai punito con misura mandandolo lontano, portandolo via con il tuo soffio impetuoso, in un giorno di vento orientale.
9 In questo modo è stata espiata l’iniquità di Giacobbe, e questo è il frutto della rimozione del suo peccato: egli ha ridotto tutte le pietre degli altari come pietre di calce frantumate, in modo che gli idoli di Astarte e le colonne solari non risorgeranno più.
10 Infatti la città fortificata è una solitudine, un pascolo abbandonato, abbandonato come il deserto; vi pascoleranno i vitelli, vi si sdraieranno e ne divoreranno gli arbusti.

7 Hat Er es auch geschlagen, wie er die schlug, welche ihm Schläge versetzten? Oder wurde es hingemordet, wie seine Mörder ermordet worden sind?
8 Mit Maßen, durch Verbannung, hast du es gestraft; Er hat es durch seinen heftigen Sturm fortgetrieben am Tag des Ostwinds.
9 Darum wird Jakobs Schuld dadurch gesühnt. Und das wird die volle Frucht der Hinwegnahme seiner Sünde sein, dass er alle Altarsteine gleich zerschlagenen Kalksteinen macht und keine Aschera-Standbilder und Sonnensäulen mehr aufrichtet.
10 Denn die feste Stadt ist einsam geworden, eine verworfene und verlassene Wohnung, wie die Steppe. Kälber weiden und lagern sich dort und fressen ihre Büsche ab.
11 Wenn deren Zweige verdorren, werden sie abgebrochen. Frauen kommen und zünden sie an. Denn es ist ein unverständiges Volk; darum erbarmt sich der nicht über sie, welcher sie gemacht hat, und der sie gebildet hat, wird sie nicht begnadigen.
12 Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tag, dass der Herr ein Dreschen veranstalten wird von den Fluten des [Euphrat-]Stromes an bis zum Bach Ägyptens, und ihr sollt gesammelt werden, ihr Kinder Israels, eins ums andere.
13 Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tag, da wird das große Schopharhorn geblasen werden; da werden heimkommen die Verlorenen aus dem Land Assyrien und die Vertriebenen aus dem Land Ägypten; und sie werden den Herrn anbeten auf dem heiligen Berg in Jerusalem.

il couvrira de fruits |la surface du monde.
7 L’Eternel les a-t-il frappés |comme il a frappé ceux |qui leur donnaient des coups ?
Les a-t-il mis à mort |comme il a mis à mort |ceux qui semaient la mort |au milieu d’eux ?
8 Non, c’est avec mesure |que tu as conduit leur procès[a], |en les envoyant en exil.
Tu les as enlevés |par ton souffle terrible
en un jour de vent d’est.
9 C’est par ce châtiment |que sera expiée |la faute de Jacob,
et voici quel sera le fruit |du pardon de sa faute :
il pulvérisera |toutes les pierres |des autels idolâtres
comme des pierres à chaux ;

La ville abandonnée
10 La cité fortifiée |restera solitaire
et elle deviendra |un camp abandonné |et délaissé comme un désert ;
les veaux y viendront paître, |ils s’y reposeront,
ils brouteront les branches.
11 Et quand les branches seront sèches, |on viendra les briser,
des femmes les feront brûler.
Car c’est un peuple sans intelligence ;
c’est pourquoi celui qui l’a fait |n’en aura pas pitié,
et celui qui l’a façonné |ne lui fera pas grâce.
Le grand retour
12 En ce jour-là, l’Eternel secouera les arbres des rives de l’Euphrate jusqu’au torrent d’Egypte. Et vous serez recueillis, vous, Israélites, un à un. 13 En ce jour-là, le grand cor sonnera, ceux qui dépérissaient en Assyrie et tous ceux qui étaient exilés en Egypte viendront adorer l’Eternel sur la sainte montagne au milieu de Jérusalem.
