5 The earth is also (A)polluted [a]by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, (B)broke the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore, a (C)curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore, the (D)inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.
7 The (E)new wine mourns,
The vine decays,
All the merry-hearted sigh.

they have disobeyed(B) the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.(C)
6 Therefore a curse(D) consumes the earth;
its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,(E)
and very few are left.
7 The new wine dries up(F) and the vine withers;(G)
all the merrymakers groan.(H)
