21 Oracle sur le désert de la mer. Comme s'avance l'ouragan du midi, Il vient du désert, du pays redoutable.
2 Une vision terrible m'a été révélée. L'oppresseur opprime, le dévastateur dévaste. -Monte, Élam! Assiège, Médie! Je fais cesser tous les soupirs. -
3 C'est pourquoi mes reins sont remplis d'angoisses; Des douleurs me saisissent, Comme les douleurs d'une femme en travail; Les spasmes m'empêchent d'entendre, Le tremblement m'empêche de voir.
4 Mon coeur est troublé, La terreur s'empare de moi; La nuit de mes plaisirs devient une nuit d'épouvante.
5 On dresse la table, la garde veille, on mange, on boit... Debout, princes! oignez le bouclier!
6 Car ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: Va, place la sentinelle; Qu'elle annonce ce qu'elle verra. -
7 Elle vit de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux, Des cavaliers sur des ânes, des cavaliers sur des chameaux; Et elle était attentive, très attentive.
8 Puis elle s'écria, comme un lion: Seigneur, je me tiens sur la tour toute la journée, Et je suis à mon poste toutes les nuits;
9 Et voici, il vient de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux! Elle prit encore la parole, et dit: Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, Et toutes les images de ses dieux sont brisées par terre! -
10 O mon peuple, qui as été battu comme du grain dans mon aire! Ce que j'ai appris de l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël, Je vous l'ai annoncé.
11 Oracle sur Duma. On me crie de Séir: Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit? Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit?
12 La sentinelle répond: Le matin vient, et la nuit aussi. Si vous voulez interroger, interrogez; Convertissez-vous, et revenez.
13 Oracle sur l'Arabie. Vous passerez la nuit dans les broussailles de l'Arabie, Caravanes de Dedan!
14 Portez de l'eau à ceux qui ont soif; Les habitants du pays de Théma Portent du pain aux fugitifs.
15 Car ils fuient devant les épées, Devant l'épée nue, devant l'arc tendu, Devant un combat acharné.
16 Car ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: Encore une année, comme les années d'un mercenaire, Et c'en est fait de toute la gloire de Kédar.
17 Il ne restera qu'un petit nombre des vaillants archers, fils de Kédar, Car l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, l'a déclaré.

The Fall of Babylon Proclaimed
21 The [a]burden against the Wilderness of the Sea.
As (A)whirlwinds in the South pass through,
So it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.
2 A distressing vision is declared to me;
(B)The treacherous dealer deals treacherously,
And the plunderer plunders.
(C)Go up, O Elam!
Besiege, O Media!
All its sighing I have made to cease.
3 Therefore (D)my loins are filled with pain;
(E)Pangs have taken hold of me, like the pangs of a woman in labor.
I was [b]distressed when I heard it;
I was dismayed when I saw it.
4 My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me;
(F)The night for which I longed He turned into fear for me.
5 (G)Prepare the table,
Set a watchman in the tower,
Eat and drink.
Arise, you princes,
Anoint the shield!
6 For thus has the Lord said to me:
“Go, set a watchman,
Let him declare what he sees.”
7 And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen,
A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels,
And he listened earnestly with great care.
8 [c]Then he cried, “A lion, my Lord!
I stand continually on the (H)watchtower in the daytime;
I have sat at my post every night.
9 And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!”
Then he answered and said,
(I)“Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
And (J)all the carved images of her gods
He has broken to the ground.”
10 (K)Oh, my threshing and the grain of my floor!
That which I have heard from the Lord of hosts,
The God of Israel,
I have declared to you.
Proclamation Against Edom
11 (L)The [d]burden against Dumah.
He calls to me out of (M)Seir,
“Watchman, what of the night?
Watchman, what of the night?”
12 The watchman said,
“The morning comes, and also the night.
If you will inquire, inquire;
Return! Come back!”
Proclamation Against Arabia
13 (N)The [e]burden against Arabia.
In the forest in Arabia you will lodge,
O you traveling companies (O)of Dedanites.
14 O inhabitants of the land of Tema,
Bring water to him who is thirsty;
With their bread they met him who fled.
15 For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword,
From the bent bow, and from the distress of war.
16 For thus the Lord has said to me: “Within a year, (P)according to the year of a hired man, all the glory of (Q)Kedar will fail; 17 and the remainder of the number of archers, the mighty men of the people of Kedar, will be diminished; for the Lord God of Israel has spoken it.”

Fallen, Fallen Is Babylon
21 The (A)oracle concerning the wilderness of (B)the sea.
(C)As whirlwinds in the Negeb sweep on,
it comes from the wilderness,
from a terrible land.
2 A stern vision is told to me;
(D)the traitor betrays,
and the destroyer destroys.
Go up, O (E)Elam;
lay siege, O (F)Media;
all the (G)sighing she has caused
I bring to an end.
3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish;
(H)pangs have seized me,
like the pangs of a woman in labor;
I am bowed down so that I cannot hear;
I am dismayed so that I cannot see.
4 My heart staggers; horror has appalled me;
(I)the twilight I longed for
has been turned for me into trembling.
5 (J)They prepare the table,
they spread the rugs,[a]
they eat, they drink.
Arise, O princes;
(K)oil the shield!
6 For thus the Lord said to me:
“Go, set a watchman;
let him announce what he sees.
7 When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs,
riders on donkeys, riders on camels,
let him listen diligently,
very diligently.”
8 Then he who saw cried out:[b]
(L)“Upon a watchtower I stand, O Lord,
continually by day,
and at my post I am stationed
whole nights.
9 And behold, here come riders,
horsemen in pairs!”
(M)And he answered,
(N)“Fallen, fallen is Babylon;
(O)and all the carved images of her gods
he has shattered to the ground.”
10 O (P)my threshed and winnowed one,
what I have heard from the Lord of hosts,
the God of Israel, I announce to you.
11 The (Q)oracle concerning (R)Dumah.
One is calling to me from (S)Seir,
“Watchman, what time of the night?
Watchman, what time of the night?”
12 The watchman says:
“Morning comes, and also (T)the night.
If you will inquire, (U)inquire;
come back again.”
13 The (V)oracle concerning (W)Arabia.
In the thickets in (X)Arabia you will lodge,
O (Y)caravans of (Z)Dedanites.
14 To the thirsty bring water;
meet the fugitive with bread,
O inhabitants of the land of (AA)Tema.
15 For they have fled from the swords,
from the drawn sword,
from the bent bow,
and from the press of battle.
16 For thus the Lord said to me, “Within a year, (AB)according to the years of a hired worker, all the glory of (AC)Kedar will come to an end. 17 And the remainder of the archers of the mighty men of the sons of (AD)Kedar will be few, (AE)for the Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.”
