12 The Lord Almighty has a day(A) in store
    for all the proud(B) and lofty,(C)
for all that is exalted(D)
    (and they will be humbled),(E)
13 for all the cedars of Lebanon,(F) tall and lofty,(G)
    and all the oaks of Bashan,(H)
14 for all the towering mountains
    and all the high hills,(I)
15 for every lofty tower(J)
    and every fortified wall,(K)
16 for every trading ship[a](L)
    and every stately vessel.
17 The arrogance of man will be brought low(M)
    and human pride humbled;(N)
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,(O)
18     and the idols(P) will totally disappear.(Q)

19 People will flee to caves(R) in the rocks
    and to holes in the ground(S)
from the fearful presence(T) of the Lord
    and the splendor of his majesty,(U)
    when he rises to shake the earth.(V)
20 In that day(W) people will throw away
    to the moles and bats(X)
their idols of silver and idols of gold,(Y)
    which they made to worship.(Z)
21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks(AA)
    and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord
    and the splendor of his majesty,(AB)
    when he rises(AC) to shake the earth.(AD)

16 Their infants(Z) will be dashed to pieces before their eyes;
    their houses will be looted and their wives violated.(AA)

Judgment Against the Nations

34 Come near, you nations, and listen;(A)
    pay attention, you peoples!(B)
Let the earth(C) hear, and all that is in it,
    the world, and all that comes out of it!(D)
The Lord is angry with all nations;
    his wrath(E) is on all their armies.
He will totally destroy[a](F) them,
    he will give them over to slaughter.(G)
Their slain(H) will be thrown out,
    their dead bodies(I) will stink;(J)
    the mountains will be soaked with their blood.(K)
All the stars in the sky will be dissolved(L)
    and the heavens rolled up(M) like a scroll;
all the starry host will fall(N)
    like withered(O) leaves from the vine,
    like shriveled figs from the fig tree.
