Isaiah 1:2-9
Legacy Standard Bible
2 (A)Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O (B)earth;
For [a]Yahweh speaks,
“(C)Sons I have reared and raised up,
But they have (D)transgressed against Me.
3 An ox knows its owner,
And a donkey its master’s manger,
But Israel (E)does not know;
My people (F)do not perceive.”
4 Alas, sinful nation,
People heavy with iniquity,
(G)Seed of evildoers,
Sons who (H)act corruptly!
They have (I)forsaken Yahweh;
They have (J)spurned the Holy One of Israel;
They have [b]become estranged [c]from Him.
5 Where will you be stricken again,
As you (K)continue in your rebellion?
The whole head is (L)sick,
And the whole heart is faint.
6 (M)From the sole of the foot even to the head
There is (N)nothing sound in it,
Only bruises, wounds, and raw wounds,
(O)Not pressed out, not bandaged,
Not softened with oil.
7 Your (P)land is desolate;
Your cities are burned with fire;
Your fields—strangers are devouring them in your presence;
It is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8 The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard,
Like a watchman’s hut in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.
9 (Q)Unless Yahweh of hosts
Had left us a few (R)survivors,
We would be like (S)Sodom,
We would be like Gomorrah.

English Standard Version
The Wickedness of Judah
2 (A)Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O (B)earth;
for the Lord has spoken:
“Children[a] (C)have I reared and brought up,
but they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox (D)knows its owner,
and the donkey its master's crib,
but Israel does (E)not know,
my people do not understand.”
4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
(F)offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the Lord,
they have (G)despised (H)the Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly (I)estranged.
5 Why will you still be (J)struck down?
Why will you (K)continue to rebel?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.
6 (L)From the sole of the foot even to the head,
there is no soundness in it,
but bruises and sores
and raw wounds;
they are (M)not pressed out or bound up
or softened with oil.
7 (N)Your country lies desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
in your very presence
foreigners devour your land;
it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.
8 And (O)the daughter of Zion is left
like a (P)booth in a vineyard,
like a lodge in a cucumber field,
like a besieged city.
9 (Q)If the Lord of hosts
had not left us (R)a few survivors,
we should have been like (S)Sodom,
and become like (T)Gomorrah.
