“It will happen in that day that the glory of Jacob will be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean. It will be like when the harvester gathers the wheat, and his arm reaps the grain. Yes, it will be like when one gleans grain in the valley of Rephaim. Yet gleanings will be left there, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of a fruitful tree,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel. In that day, people will look to their Maker, and their eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel. They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they respect that which their fingers have made, either the Asherah poles, or the incense altars.

A Time of Weakness for Israel

“At that time,[a] Jacob’s glory will have become weakened,
    and his strong[b] flesh will turn gaunt;
it will be as if harvesters gather standing grain,
    reaping the ears by hand,[c]
or it will be as if grain is harvested
    in the valley of Rephaim.[d]
Nevertheless, gleanings will remain in Israel,[e]
    as when an olive tree is beaten—[f]
two or three ripe olives left in the topmost branches,
    four or five left among the branches of a fruit-filled tree,”[g]
        declares the Lord God of Israel.

Revival to Come to Israel

At that time, men will look upon[h] their Maker, and their eyes will honor the Holy One of Israel. They will not look upon[i] the altars, the products[j] that their own fingers[k] have made, and they will have no regard for Asherah poles[l] or incense altars.[m]
