Isaiah 15

Judgment on Moab
15 The pronouncement concerning (A)Moab:
Certainly in a night (B)Ar of Moab is devastated and ruined;
Certainly in a night Kir of Moab is devastated and ruined.
2 [a]The people have gone up to the [b]temple and to (C)Dibon, to the high places to weep.
Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba;
Everyone’s head is (D)bald and every beard is cut off.
3 In their streets they have put on (E)sackcloth;
(F)On their housetops and in their public squares
Everyone is wailing, [c](G)overcome with weeping.
4 (H)Heshbon and Elealeh also cry out,
Their voice is heard all the way to Jahaz;
Therefore the [d]armed men of Moab cry aloud;
His soul trembles within him.
5 My heart cries out for Moab;
His fugitives are as far as (I)Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah,
For they go up the (J)ascent of Luhith weeping;
Indeed, on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of distress (K)over their collapse.
6 For the (L)waters of Nimrim are [e]desolate.
Indeed, the grass is withered, the new growth has died,
There is (M)no greenery.
7 Therefore the (N)abundance which they have acquired and stored up,
They carry it off over the brook of [f]Arabim.
8 For the cry of distress has gone around the territory of Moab,
Its wailing goes as far as Eglaim and its howling to Beer-elim.
9 For the waters of Dimon are full of [g]blood;
I will certainly bring added woes upon Dimon,
A (O)lion upon the fugitives of Moab and the remnant of the land.

The Voice
15 A message about Moab:
In the cover of night, Moab was attacked and decimated.
Both Ar and Kir were decimated in a single night.
2 The whole community traipses up to the temple, to Dibon
to weep and cry out to the gods.
Moab weeps and wails over the dead in Nebo and Medeba,
every head and beard shaved in mourning.
3 They wander the streets dressed in sackcloth;
on roofs and public places people wail, collapsing in abundance of tears.
4 The cries of Heshbon in the north and Elealeh nearby
reach to Jahaz in the east.
Moab is shaken to the core, wracked with terror, sadness, and grief;
even its bravest soldiers cry out.
5 It breaks my heart to hear Moab.
Refugees make for Zoar at Edom’s border to Eglath-shelishiyah.
They climb, weeping, to the heights of Luhith and along roads to Horonaim.
They go with shattering cries.
The land itself is destroyed, dead.
6 Where it had been green and rippling with tall grasses, now it’s brown and dusty.
Where sweet water glistened all along Nimrim, now it’s dry and desolate.
7 So the people are carting away all their belongings.
Whatever they’ve gathered, they carry along the brook lined with poplars.
8 And Moab cries; the whole country wails.
From Eglaim to Beer-elim, you can hear the crying.
9 The waters of Dimon run red with blood.
Eternal One: I will bring more disaster to Dimon: those fugitives of Moab will fare even worse—I’ll send predators upon the remnant of the land to hunt them down.
Isaiah 15
King James Version
15 The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;
2 He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.
3 In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, every one shall howl, weeping abundantly.
4 And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.
5 My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing.
7 Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.
8 For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling thereof unto Eglaim, and the howling thereof unto Beerelim.
9 For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapeth of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.
