24 The Lord Almighty has sworn,(A)

“Surely, as I have planned,(B) so it will be,
    and as I have purposed, so it will happen.(C)
25 I will crush the Assyrian(D) in my land;
    on my mountains I will trample him down.
His yoke(E) will be taken from my people,
    and his burden removed from their shoulders.(F)

26 This is the plan(G) determined for the whole world;
    this is the hand(H) stretched out over all nations.
27 For the Lord Almighty has purposed,(I) and who can thwart him?
    His hand(J) is stretched out, and who can turn it back?(K)

A Prophecy Against Egypt and Cush

20 In the year that the supreme commander,(AJ) sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod(AK) and attacked and captured it— at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz.(AL) He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth(AM) from your body and the sandals(AN) from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped(AO) and barefoot.(AP)

Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant(AQ) Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years,(AR) as a sign(AS) and portent(AT) against Egypt(AU) and Cush,[c](AV) so the king(AW) of Assyria will lead away stripped(AX) and barefoot the Egyptian captives(AY) and Cushite(AZ) exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared(BA)—to Egypt’s shame.(BB) Those who trusted(BC) in Cush(BD) and boasted in Egypt(BE) will be dismayed and put to shame.(BF) In that day(BG) the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened(BH) to those we relied on,(BI) those we fled to for help(BJ) and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?(BK)’”
