Profetia över Babylon
13 Detta är den syn som Gud visade Jesaja, Amos son, beträffande domen över Babylon.
2 Res stridsbanéret på en höjd. Ropa till dem och vädja till dem att angripa de förnäma.
3 Jag, Herren, har avdelat mina styrkor för detta uppdrag. Jag har befallt dem som gläds över min seger att utföra detta uppdrag för att min vrede ska stillas.
4 Vilket oväsen det är där uppe på bergen bland folkmassorna! Många nationer samlas och är i uppror. Det är Herren, härskarornas Gud,
5 som har fört dem hit från många olika länder långt bortifrån. De är hans vapen mot dig, du Babylon. De representerar hans vrede och kommer för att ödelägga ditt land.
6 Skrik av fasa, för nu har Herrens tillfälle kommit! Dagen är inne för den Allsmäktige att krossa er.
7 Era armar är som förlamade av fruktan, och även de starkaste bävar av förskräckelse.
8 Fruktan griper er och smärtan är som en kvinnas födslovåndor. Ni ser hjälplöst på med hettande kinder.
9 Det är Herrens dag som kommer, hans fruktansvärda vredes dag. Landet med alla dess syndare ska förgöras.
10 Himlen ska förmörkas över dem. Inget ljus ska nå dem från vare sig sol, måne eller stjärnor.
11 Jag ska straffa världen för dess ondska, och de ogudaktiga för deras synder. Jag ska krossa den stoltes övermod och den rikes högmod.
12 Det är få som fortfarande kommer att vara vid liv när jag har avslutat mitt verk.Människor kommer att vara lika sällsynta som guld, ja, värdefullare än guld från Ofir.
13 Jag ska i min vrede få himlen att darra, och jorden ska flytta sig från sin plats på Herrens vredes dag.
14 Var och en ska fly tillbaka till sitt eget land, som hjortar jagade av hundar eller som vilsna får utan herde.
15 De som inte flyr kommer att slaktas.
16 Deras spädbarn kommer att krossas mot marken inför deras ögon. Deras hem kommer att plundras och kvinnorna att våldtas av de anfallande trupperna.
17 Jag ska sätta mederna i rörelse mot Babylon, och inget silver eller guld ska vara tillräckligt för att kunna köpa dem fria.
18 Deras anfallande arméer kommer inte att ha något förbarmande med de unga i Babylon och inte heller med barn eller spädbarn.
19 På så sätt ska Babylon, det mäktigaste av kungarikena, den kaldeiska kulturens blomma, bli ödelagt, precis som Sodom och Gomorra när Gud sände eld från himlen över dem.
20 Babylon kommer aldrig mer att resa sig. Generation efter generation ska komma och gå, men landet kommer aldrig mer att bli bebott. Inte ens nomader ska slå upp sina tält där. Ingen herde kommer att låta sina får vila där.
21 Det blir ett tillhåll för vilda djur, och i husen ska schakaler bo. Ugglor ska flyga omkring och demoner ska dansa där.
22 Hyenor ska yla i dess borgar, och schakaler kommer att uppehålla sig i palatsen. Ja, Babylons dagar är räknade, och snart är tiden inne för domen.

Proclamation Against Babylon
13 The (A)burden[a] against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
2 “Lift(B) up a banner (C)on the high mountain,
Raise your voice to them;
(D)Wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles.
3 I have commanded My [b]sanctified ones;
I have also called (E)My mighty ones for My anger—
Those who (F)rejoice in My exaltation.”
4 The (G)noise of a multitude in the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together!
The Lord of hosts musters
The army for battle.
5 They come from a far country,
From the end of heaven—
The (H)Lord and His [c]weapons of indignation,
To destroy the whole (I)land.
6 Wail, (J)for the day of the Lord is at hand!
(K)It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore all hands will be limp,
Every man’s heart will melt,
8 And they will be afraid.
(L)Pangs[d] and sorrows will take hold of them;
They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth;
They will be amazed at one another;
Their faces will be like flames.
9 Behold, (M)the day of the Lord comes,
Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger,
To lay the land desolate;
And He will destroy (N)its sinners from it.
10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not give their light;
The sun will be (O)darkened in its going forth,
And the moon will not cause its light to shine.
11 “I will (P)punish the world for its evil,
And the wicked for their iniquity;
(Q)I will halt the arrogance of the proud,
And will lay low the haughtiness of the [e]terrible.
12 I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold,
A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 (R)Therefore I will shake the heavens,
And the earth will move out of her place,
In the wrath of the Lord of hosts
And in (S)the day of His fierce anger.
14 It shall be as the hunted gazelle,
And as a sheep that no man [f]takes up;
(T)Every man will turn to his own people,
And everyone will flee to his own land.
15 Everyone who is found will be thrust through,
And everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16 Their children also will be (U)dashed to pieces before their eyes;
Their houses will be plundered
And their wives (V)ravished.
17 “Behold,(W) I will stir up the Medes against them,
Who will not [g]regard silver;
And as for gold, they will not delight in it.
18 Also their bows will dash the young men to pieces,
And they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb;
Their eye will not spare children.
19 (X)And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms,
The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God overthrew (Y)Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 (Z)It will never be inhabited,
Nor will it be settled from generation to generation;
Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there,
Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.
21 (AA)But wild beasts of the desert will lie there,
And their houses will be full of [h]owls;
Ostriches will dwell there,
And wild goats will caper there.
22 The hyenas will howl in their citadels,
And jackals in their pleasant palaces.
(AB)Her time is near to come,
And her days will not be prolonged.”

A Prophecy Against Babylon
13 A prophecy(A) against Babylon(B) that Isaiah son of Amoz(C) saw:(D)
2 Raise a banner(E) on a bare hilltop,
shout to them;
beckon to them
to enter the gates(F) of the nobles.
3 I have commanded those I prepared for battle;
I have summoned my warriors(G) to carry out my wrath(H)—
those who rejoice(I) in my triumph.
4 Listen, a noise on the mountains,
like that of a great multitude!(J)
Listen, an uproar(K) among the kingdoms,
like nations massing together!
The Lord Almighty(L) is mustering(M)
an army for war.
5 They come from faraway lands,
from the ends of the heavens(N)—
the Lord and the weapons(O) of his wrath(P)—
to destroy(Q) the whole country.
6 Wail,(R) for the day(S) of the Lord is near;
it will come like destruction(T) from the Almighty.[a](U)
7 Because of this, all hands will go limp,(V)
every heart will melt with fear.(W)
8 Terror(X) will seize them,
pain and anguish will grip(Y) them;
they will writhe like a woman in labor.(Z)
They will look aghast at each other,
their faces aflame.(AA)
9 See, the day(AB) of the Lord is coming
—a cruel(AC) day, with wrath(AD) and fierce anger(AE)—
to make the land desolate
and destroy the sinners within it.
10 The stars of heaven and their constellations
will not show their light.(AF)
The rising sun(AG) will be darkened(AH)
and the moon will not give its light.(AI)
11 I will punish(AJ) the world for its evil,
the wicked(AK) for their sins.
I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty(AL)
and will humble(AM) the pride of the ruthless.(AN)
12 I will make people(AO) scarcer than pure gold,
more rare than the gold of Ophir.(AP)
13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble;(AQ)
and the earth will shake(AR) from its place
at the wrath(AS) of the Lord Almighty,
in the day of his burning anger.(AT)
14 Like a hunted(AU) gazelle,
like sheep without a shepherd,(AV)
they will all return to their own people,
they will flee(AW) to their native land.(AX)
15 Whoever is captured will be thrust through;
all who are caught will fall(AY) by the sword.(AZ)
16 Their infants(BA) will be dashed to pieces before their eyes;
their houses will be looted and their wives violated.(BB)
17 See, I will stir up(BC) against them the Medes,(BD)
who do not care for silver
and have no delight in gold.(BE)
18 Their bows(BF) will strike down the young men;(BG)
they will have no mercy(BH) on infants,
nor will they look with compassion on children.(BI)
19 Babylon,(BJ) the jewel of kingdoms,(BK)
the pride and glory(BL) of the Babylonians,[b]
will be overthrown(BM) by God
like Sodom and Gomorrah.(BN)
20 She will never be inhabited(BO)
or lived in through all generations;
there no nomads(BP) will pitch their tents,
there no shepherds will rest their flocks.
21 But desert creatures(BQ) will lie there,
jackals(BR) will fill her houses;
there the owls(BS) will dwell,
and there the wild goats(BT) will leap about.
22 Hyenas(BU) will inhabit her strongholds,(BV)
jackals(BW) her luxurious palaces.
Her time is at hand,(BX)
and her days will not be prolonged.(BY)
