⁹ Behold, ^(A)the day of the Lord comes,
Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger,
To lay the land desolate;
And He will destroy ^(B)its sinners from it.
¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not give their light;
The sun will be ^(C)darkened in its going forth,
And the moon will not cause its light to shine.

¹¹ “I will ^(D)punish the world for its evil,
And the wicked for their iniquity;
^(E)I will halt the arrogance of the proud,
And will lay low the haughtiness of the ^[a]terrible.
¹² I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold,
A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.
^13 (F)Therefore I will shake the heavens,
And the earth will move out of her place,
In the wrath of the Lord of hosts
And in ^(G)the day of His fierce anger.

^19 (C)The earth is violently broken,
The earth is split open,
The earth is shaken exceedingly.
²⁰ The earth shall ^(D)reel^[b] to and fro like a drunkard,
And shall totter like a hut;
Its transgression shall be heavy upon it,
And it will fall, and not rise again.

²¹ It shall come to pass in that day
That the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones,
And on the earth ^(E)the kings of the earth.
²² They will be gathered together,
As prisoners are gathered in the ^[c]pit,
And will be shut up in the prison;
After many days they will be punished.
²³ Then the ^(F)moon will be disgraced
And the sun ashamed;
For the Lord of hosts will ^(G)reign
On ^(H)Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
And before His elders, gloriously.
