Isaiah 12
Holman Christian Standard Bible
A Song of Praise
12 On that day you will say:
“I will praise You, Lord,
although You were angry with me.
Your anger has turned away,
and You have had compassion(A) on me.
2 Indeed, God is my salvation;
I will trust Him and not be afraid,
for Yah, the Lord,
is my strength and my song.
He has become my salvation.”(B)
3 You will joyfully draw water(C)
from the springs of salvation,
4 and on that day you will say:
“Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim His name!
Celebrate His works among the peoples.(D)
Declare that His name is exalted.
5 Sing to Yahweh, for He has done glorious things.(E)
Let this be known throughout the earth.
6 Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion,
for the Holy One of Israel(F) is among you
in His greatness.”
Isaiah 57:14-21

Healing and Peace
14 He said,
“Build it up, build it up, prepare the way,
remove every obstacle from My people’s way.”(A)
15 For the High and Exalted One
who lives forever, whose name is Holy(B) says this:
“I live in a high and holy place,
and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit,(C)
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and revive the heart of the oppressed.(D)
16 For I will not accuse you forever,
and I will not always be angry;(E)
for then the spirit would grow weak before Me,
even the breath of man, which I have made.
17 Because of his sinful greed I was angry,(F)
so I struck him; I was angry and hid;[a]
but he went on turning back to the desires of his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;
I will lead him and restore comfort
to him and his mourners,(G)
19 creating words of praise.”[b](H)
The Lord says,
“Peace, peace to the one who is far or near,(I)
and I will heal him.
20 But the wicked are like the storm-tossed sea,(J)
for it cannot be still,
and its waters churn up mire and muck.
21 There is no peace for the wicked,”
says my God.(K)

The Guilt of the Gentile World
18 For God’s wrath(A) is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,(B) 19 since what can be known[a] about God is evident among them,(C) because God has shown it to them. 20 For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world,(D) being understood through what He has made.(E) As a result, people are without excuse. 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened.(F) 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools(G) 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.(H)
24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts(I) to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie,(J) and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever.(K) Amen.

Praise the King
A psalm.
1 Sing a new song to the Lord,(A)
for He has performed wonders;
His right hand and holy arm
have won Him victory.(B)
2 The Lord has made His victory known;
He has revealed His righteousness
in the sight of the nations.(C)
3 He has remembered His love
and faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth
have seen our God’s victory.(D)
1 Samuel 28:3-19
Holman Christian Standard Bible
3 By this time Samuel had died,(A) and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his city,(B) and Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.(C) 4 The Philistines came together and camped at Shunem. So Saul gathered all Israel, and they camped at Gilboa. 5 When Saul saw the Philistine camp, he was afraid and trembled violently. 6 He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him in dreams or by the Urim or by the prophets.(D) 7 Saul then said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I can go and consult her.”
His servants replied, “There is a woman at En-dor(E) who is a medium.”(F)
8 Saul disguised himself(G) by putting on different clothes and set out with two of his men. They came to the woman at night, and Saul said, “Consult a spirit for me.(H) Bring up for me the one I tell you.”(I)
9 But the woman said to him, “You surely know what Saul has done,(J) how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why are you setting a trap for me to get me killed?”
10 Then Saul swore to her by the Lord: “As surely as the Lord lives, nothing bad will happen to you because of this.”
11 “Who is it that you want me to bring up for you?” the woman asked.
“Bring up Samuel for me,” he answered.
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, and then she asked Saul, “Why did you deceive me? You are Saul!”
13 But the king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. What do you see?”
“I see a spirit form[a] coming up out of the earth,” the woman answered.
14 Then Saul asked her, “What does he look like?”
“An old man is coming up,” she replied. “He’s wearing a robe.”(K) Then Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed his face to the ground and paid homage.(L)
15 “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Samuel asked Saul.
“I’m in serious trouble,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me and God has turned away from me.(M) He doesn’t answer me anymore,(N) either through the prophets or in dreams. So I’ve called on you to tell me what I should do.”
16 Samuel answered, “Since the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy, why are you asking me? 17 The Lord has done[b] exactly what He said through me: The Lord has torn the kingship out of your hand and given it to your neighbor David.(O) 18 You did not obey the Lord and did not carry out His burning anger against Amalek;(P) therefore the Lord has done this to you today. 19 The Lord will also hand Israel over to the Philistines along with you. Tomorrow you and your sons will be with me,[c](Q) and the Lord will hand Israel’s army over to the Philistines.”
