10 In that day (A)the root of (B)Jesse, who shall stand as (C)a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.

11 (D)In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, (E)from Assyria, (F)from Egypt, from (G)Pathros, from (H)Cush,[a] from (I)Elam, from (J)Shinar, from (K)Hamath, and from (L)the coastlands of the sea.

12 He will raise (M)a signal for the nations
and will assemble (N)the banished of Israel,
and gather the dispersed of Judah
from the four corners of the earth.
13 (O)The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart,
    and those who harass Judah shall be cut off;
Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah,
and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.
14 (P)But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west,
and together they shall plunder (Q)the people of the east.
They shall put out their hand (R)against (S)Edom and (T)Moab,
and (U)the Ammonites shall obey them.
15 And the Lord will utterly destroy[b]
(V)the tongue of the Sea of Egypt,
and will wave his hand over (W)the River[c]
    with his scorching breath,[d]
and strike it into seven channels,
and he will lead people across in sandals.
16 And there will be (X)a highway from Assyria
for the remnant that remains of his people,
(Y)as there was for Israel
when they came up from the land of Egypt.

Israel Regathered

10 At that time,[a] as to[b] the root of Jesse, who will be standing as a banner for the peoples, the nations will rally to him, and his resting place is[c] glorious.

11 At that time,[d] the Lord will reach out his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people, from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt,[e] from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands[f] of the sea.

12 He will raise a banner for the nations
    and will assemble the dispersed of Israel;
he will gather the scattered people of Judah
from the corners[g] of the earth.

Israel’s Victory over Its Enemies

13 Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish,[h]
and those who are hostile to Judah will be eliminated;[i]
Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah,
and Judah will not be hostile to Ephraim.
14 But they[j] will swoop down
on the slopes[k] of the Philistines to the west,
and they will plunder[l] the people to[m] the east.
They’ll lay their hands on Edom and Moab,
and the Ammonites will be subject to them.
15 The Lord will totally destroy
the gulf[n] of the Sea of Egypt.
He will sweep his hand
    over the Euphrates River
        with a violent wind,[o]
breaking it up into seven streams,
and making a way for people to cross on foot.
16 And there will be a highway
for the remnant that is left of his people out of Assyria,
as there was for Israel
    when they came up
        from the land of Egypt.
