Isaiah 11:1-9
English Standard Version
The Righteous Reign of the Branch
11 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of (A)Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And (B)the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
(C)He shall not judge by (D)what his eyes see,
or decide disputes by (E)what his ears hear,
4 but (F)with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall (G)strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and (H)with the breath of his lips (I)he shall kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and (J)faithfulness the belt of his loins.
6 (K)The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
and a little child shall lead them.
7 The cow and the bear shall graze;
their young shall lie down together;
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,
and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.
9 (L)They shall not hurt or destroy
in all (M)my holy mountain;
(N)for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

The Lord Is My Strength and My Song
12 You[a] will say (A)in that day:
“I will give thanks to you, O Lord,
for though you were angry with me,
(B)your anger turned away,
that you might comfort me.
2 “Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for (C)the Lord God[b] is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.”
3 (D)With joy you[c] will draw water from the wells of salvation.

The Ransomed Shall Return
35 (A)The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad;
(B)the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus;
2 it shall blossom abundantly
and rejoice with joy and singing.
(C)The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
the majesty of (D)Carmel and (E)Sharon.
(F)They shall see the glory of the Lord,
the majesty of our God.
3 (G)Strengthen the weak hands,
and make firm the feeble knees.
4 Say to those who have an anxious heart,
“Be strong; fear not!
(H)Behold, your God
will come with vengeance,
with the recompense of God.
He will come and save you.”
5 (I)Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
6 (J)then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.
(K)For waters break forth in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert;
7 (L)the burning sand shall become a pool,
and the thirsty ground springs of water;
in the haunt of (M)jackals, where they lie down,
the grass shall become reeds and rushes.
8 (N)And a highway shall be there,
and it shall be called the Way of Holiness;
(O)the unclean shall not pass over it.
It shall belong to those who walk on the way;
even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.[a]
9 No lion shall be there,
nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;
they shall not be found there,
but the redeemed shall walk there.
10 (P)And the ransomed of the Lord shall return
and come to Zion with singing;
(Q)everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
they shall obtain gladness and joy,
and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Israel's Only Savior
43 But now thus says the Lord,
(A)he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
(B)“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
(C)I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 (D)When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
(E)when you walk through fire (F)you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For (G)I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
(H)I give Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and (I)Seba in exchange for you.
4 Because you are precious in my eyes,
and honored, and I love you,
I give men in return for you,
peoples in exchange for your life.
5 (J)Fear not, for I am with you;
(K)I will bring your offspring from the east,
and from the west I will gather you.
6 I will say to the north, Give up,
and to the south, Do not withhold;
bring (L)my sons from afar
and (M)my daughters from the end of the earth,
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
8 Bring out (N)the people who are blind, yet have eyes,
who are deaf, yet have ears!
Isaiah 60:18-21
English Standard Version
18 (A)Violence shall no more be heard in your land,
devastation or destruction within your borders;
(B)you shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
19 (C)The sun shall be no more
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give you light;[a]
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.[b]
20 Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and (D)your days of mourning shall be ended.
21 (E)Your people shall all be righteous;
(F)they shall possess the land forever,
(G)the branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.[c]

20 (A)And they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations (B)as an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. 21 (C)And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.
22 “For as (D)the new heavens and the new earth
that I make
shall remain before me, says the Lord,
so (E)shall your offspring and your name remain.

The Lord Will Restore Israel
14 (A)“Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, (B)‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’ 15 but (C)‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel (D)out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ For (E)I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
16 “Behold, (F)I am sending for many fishers, declares the Lord, and they shall catch them. And afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out (G)of the clefts of the rocks.

10 (A)“Then fear not, (B)O Jacob my servant, declares the Lord,
nor be dismayed, O Israel;
for behold, (C)I will save you from far away,
(D)and your offspring from the land of their captivity.
(E)Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease,
and none shall make him afraid.
11 (F)For I am with you to save you,
declares the Lord;
(G)I will make a full end of all the nations
among whom I scattered you,
but of you I will not make a full end.
(H)I will (I)discipline you in just measure,
and I will by no means leave you unpunished.
12 “For thus says the Lord:
(J)Your hurt is incurable,
(K)and your wound is grievous.
13 There is none to uphold your cause,
no medicine for your wound,
(L)no healing for you.
14 (M)All your lovers have forgotten you;
they care nothing for you;
for I have dealt you the blow of (N)an enemy,
the punishment (O)of a merciless foe,
because your guilt is great,
(P)because your sins are flagrant.
15 (Q)Why do you cry out over your hurt?
(R)Your pain is incurable.
Because your guilt is great,
(S)because your sins are flagrant,
I have done these things to you.
16 (T)Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured,
and (U)all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity;
(V)those who plunder you shall be plundered,
(W)and all who prey on you I will make a prey.
17 (X)For I will restore (Y)health to you,
and (Z)your wounds I will heal,
declares the Lord,
because (AA)they have called you an outcast:
(AB)‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’
18 “Thus says the Lord:
Behold, (AC)I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob
and have compassion on his dwellings;
the city shall be rebuilt on (AD)its mound,
and the palace shall stand where it used to be.

The New Covenant
31 (A)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make (B)a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when (C)I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, (D)though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 (E)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: (F)I will put my law within them, and I will write it (G)on their hearts. (H)And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ (I)for they shall all know me, (J)from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For (K)I will forgive their iniquity, and (L)I will remember their sin no more.”
35 Thus says the Lord,
who (M)gives the sun for light by day
and (N)the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—
(O)the Lord of hosts is his name:
36 (P)“If this fixed order departs
from before me, declares the Lord,
then shall the offspring of Israel cease
from being a nation before me forever.”
37 Thus says the Lord:
“If the heavens above can be measured,
and the foundations of the earth below can be explored,
(Q)then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel
for all that they have done,
declares the Lord.”
Jeremiah 32:37-40
English Standard Version
37 (A)Behold, I will gather them from all the countries (B)to which I drove them in (C)my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, (D)and I will make them dwell in safety. 38 (E)And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 39 (F)I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, (G)for their own good and the good of their children after them. 40 (H)I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. (I)And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.

17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: (A)I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, (B)and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, (C)they will remove from it all its (D)detestable things and all its abominations. 19 (E)And I will give them one heart, and (F)a new spirit I will put within them. 25 “Thus says the Lord God: (A)When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and (B)manifest my holiness in them in the sight of the nations, (C)then they shall dwell in their own land that I gave to my servant Jacob. 26 (D)And they shall dwell securely in it, and they shall build houses and plant vineyards. They shall dwell securely, (E)when I execute judgments upon all their neighbors (F)who have treated them with contempt. (G)Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.”
