Isaiah 1:20-28
New International Version
20 but if you resist and rebel,(A)
you will be devoured by the sword.”(B)
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.(C)
21 See how the faithful city
has become a prostitute!(D)
She once was full of justice;
righteousness(E) used to dwell in her—
but now murderers!(F)
22 Your silver has become dross,(G)
your choice wine is diluted with water.
23 Your rulers are rebels,(H)
partners with thieves;(I)
they all love bribes(J)
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.(K)
24 Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One(L) of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge(M) myself on my enemies.(N)
25 I will turn my hand against you;[a](O)
I will thoroughly purge(P) away your dross(Q)
and remove all your impurities.(R)
26 I will restore your leaders as in days of old,(S)
your rulers as at the beginning.
Afterward you will be called(T)
the City of Righteousness,(U)
the Faithful City.(V)”
