The ox knows its owner,
and the donkey its master’s feeding trough,
but Israel does not know;
my people do not understand.’(A)

Oh sinful nation,
people weighed down with iniquity,(B)
brood of evildoers,(C)
depraved children!
They have abandoned(D) the Lord;
they have despised(E) the Holy One of Israel;(F)
they have turned their backs on him.

Why do you want more beatings?
Why do you keep on rebelling?
The whole head is hurt,
and the whole heart is sick.

    a people whose guilt is great,(E)
a brood of evildoers,(F)
    children given to corruption!(G)

    they have spurned the Holy One(I) of Israel
    and turned their backs(J) on him.

Why should you be beaten(K) anymore?
    Why do you persist(L) in rebellion?(M)
Your whole head is injured,
    your whole heart(N) afflicted.(O)

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
