^13 (A)“As I^[a] called, and they would not hear, ^(B)so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts,

⁸ “Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. ^9 (A)Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, ^(B)swear falsely, ^(C)make offerings to Baal, ^(D)and go after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, ^(E)which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?

^25 (A)When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ^(B)‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ^(C)‘I do not know where you come from.’ ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, ^(D)‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ ²⁷ But he will say, ‘I tell you, ^(E)I do not know where you come from. ^(F)Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’ ^28 (G)In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see ^(H)Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but ^(I)you yourselves cast out.

¹² Though they fast, I will not hear their cry, ^(A)and though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them ^(B)by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
