9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,
and the head of Samaria is (A)the son of Remaliah.
(B)If you[a] are not firm in faith,
you will not be firm at all.’”
The Sign of Immanuel
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask (C)a sign of the Lord your[b] God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he[c] said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you (D)weary my God also? 14 Therefore the (E)Lord himself will give you a sign. (F)Behold, the (G)virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name (H)Immanuel.[d]

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,(A)
and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.
If you do not stand(B) firm in your faith,(C)
you will not stand at all.’”(D)
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign,(E) whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.(F)”
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.(G)”
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David!(H) Is it not enough(I) to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience(J) of my God(K) also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you[a] a sign:(L) The virgin[b](M) will conceive and give birth to a son,(N) and[c] will call him Immanuel.[d](O)
