The Sign of Immanuel
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask (A)a sign of the Lord your[a] God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he[b] said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you (B)weary my God also? 14 Therefore the (C)Lord himself will give you a sign. (D)Behold, the (E)virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name (F)Immanuel.[c]

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign,(A) whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.(B)”
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.(C)”
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David!(D) Is it not enough(E) to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience(F) of my God(G) also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you[a] a sign:(H) The virgin[b](I) will conceive and give birth to a son,(J) and[c] will call him Immanuel.[d](K)

Wonderful (E)Counselor, (F)Mighty God,
(G)Everlasting (H)Father, Prince of (I)Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
(J)there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
(K)with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
(L)The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

The Righteous Reign of the Branch
11 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of (A)Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And (B)the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
(C)He shall not judge by (D)what his eyes see,
or decide disputes by (E)what his ears hear,
4 but (F)with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall (G)strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and (H)with the breath of his lips (I)he shall kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and (J)faithfulness the belt of his loins.

The Branch From Jesse

the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
