17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.

24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.

66 Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.

I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

Hear the word of the Lord, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the Lord be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the Lord that rendereth recompence to his enemies.

Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.

10 Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

11 That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

12 For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

14 And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the Lord shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.

15 For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For by fire and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the Lord.

18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.

20 And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the Lord out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the Lord, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord.

21 And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the Lord.

22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.

23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “See, I will create
    new heavens and a new earth.(A)
The former things will not be remembered,(B)
    nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice(C) forever
    in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem(D) to be a delight
    and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice(E) over Jerusalem
    and take delight(F) in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying(G)
    will be heard in it no more.

20 “Never again will there be in it
    an infant(H) who lives but a few days,
    or an old man who does not live out his years;(I)
the one who dies at a hundred
    will be thought a mere child;
the one who fails to reach[a] a hundred
    will be considered accursed.
21 They will build houses(J) and dwell in them;
    they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.(K)
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them,(L)
    or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,(M)
    so will be the days(N) of my people;
my chosen(O) ones will long enjoy
    the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain,(P)
    nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune;(Q)
for they will be a people blessed(R) by the Lord,
    they and their descendants(S) with them.
24 Before they call(T) I will answer;(U)
    while they are still speaking(V) I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb(W) will feed together,
    and the lion will eat straw like the ox,(X)
    and dust will be the serpent’s(Y) food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
    on all my holy mountain,”(Z)
says the Lord.

Judgment and Hope

66 This is what the Lord says:

“Heaven is my throne,(AA)
    and the earth is my footstool.(AB)
Where is the house(AC) you will build for me?
    Where will my resting place be?
Has not my hand made all these things,(AD)
    and so they came into being?”
declares the Lord.

“These are the ones I look on with favor:
    those who are humble and contrite in spirit,(AE)
    and who tremble at my word.(AF)
But whoever sacrifices a bull(AG)
    is like one who kills a person,
and whoever offers a lamb
    is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever makes a grain offering
    is like one who presents pig’s(AH) blood,
and whoever burns memorial incense(AI)
    is like one who worships an idol.
They have chosen their own ways,(AJ)
    and they delight in their abominations;(AK)
so I also will choose harsh treatment for them
    and will bring on them what they dread.(AL)
For when I called, no one answered,(AM)
    when I spoke, no one listened.
They did evil(AN) in my sight
    and chose what displeases me.”(AO)

Hear the word of the Lord,
    you who tremble at his word:(AP)
“Your own people who hate(AQ) you,
    and exclude you because of my name, have said,
‘Let the Lord be glorified,
    that we may see your joy!’
    Yet they will be put to shame.(AR)
Hear that uproar from the city,
    hear that noise from the temple!
It is the sound(AS) of the Lord
    repaying(AT) his enemies all they deserve.

“Before she goes into labor,(AU)
    she gives birth;
before the pains come upon her,
    she delivers a son.(AV)
Who has ever heard of such things?
    Who has ever seen(AW) things like this?
Can a country be born in a day(AX)
    or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor
    than she gives birth to her children.(AY)
Do I bring to the moment of birth(AZ)
    and not give delivery?” says the Lord.
“Do I close up the womb
    when I bring to delivery?” says your God.
10 “Rejoice(BA) with Jerusalem and be glad for her,
    all you who love(BB) her;
rejoice greatly with her,
    all you who mourn(BC) over her.
11 For you will nurse(BD) and be satisfied
    at her comforting breasts;(BE)
you will drink deeply
    and delight in her overflowing abundance.”(BF)

12 For this is what the Lord says:

“I will extend peace(BG) to her like a river,(BH)
    and the wealth(BI) of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried(BJ) on her arm
    and dandled on her knees.
13 As a mother comforts her child,(BK)
    so will I comfort(BL) you;
    and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice(BM)
    and you will flourish(BN) like grass;
the hand(BO) of the Lord will be made known to his servants,(BP)
    but his fury(BQ) will be shown to his foes.
15 See, the Lord is coming with fire,(BR)
    and his chariots(BS) are like a whirlwind;(BT)
he will bring down his anger with fury,
    and his rebuke(BU) with flames of fire.
16 For with fire(BV) and with his sword(BW)
    the Lord will execute judgment(BX) on all people,
    and many will be those slain(BY) by the Lord.

17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens,(BZ) following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs,(CA) rats(CB) and other unclean things—they will meet their end(CC) together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.

18 “And I, because of what they have planned and done,(CD) am about to come[b] and gather the people of all nations(CE) and languages, and they will come and see my glory.(CF)

19 “I will set a sign(CG) among them, and I will send some of those who survive(CH) to the nations—to Tarshish,(CI) to the Libyans[c] and Lydians(CJ) (famous as archers), to Tubal(CK) and Greece,(CL) and to the distant islands(CM) that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory.(CN) They will proclaim my glory among the nations. 20 And they will bring(CO) all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain(CP) in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,”(CQ) says the Lord. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels.(CR) 21 And I will select some of them also to be priests(CS) and Levites,” says the Lord.

22 “As the new heavens and the new earth(CT) that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure.(CU) 23 From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath(CV) to another, all mankind will come and bow down(CW) before me,” says the Lord. 24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies(CX) of those who rebelled(CY) against me; the worms(CZ) that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched,(DA) and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

  3. Isaiah 66:19 Some Septuagint manuscripts Put (Libyans); Hebrew Pul

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

For you were once(A) darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light(B) (for the fruit(C) of the light consists in all goodness,(D) righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.(E) 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,(F) but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light(G) becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,(H)
    rise from the dead,(I)
    and Christ will shine on you.”(J)

15 Be very careful, then, how you live(K)—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity,(L) because the days are evil.(M) 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.(N) 18 Do not get drunk on wine,(O) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,(P) 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.(Q) Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks(R) to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Instructions for Christian Households(S)

21 Submit to one another(T) out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands(U) as you do to the Lord.(V) 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,(W) his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands(X) in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives,(Y) just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her(Z) 26 to make her holy,(AA) cleansing[a] her by the washing(AB) with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself(AC) as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.(AD) 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives(AE) as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.(AF) 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[b](AG) 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife(AH) as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

113 Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore.

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised.

The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.

Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high,

Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;

That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
