Isaiah 65:13-16

New Living Translation

¹³Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“My servants will eat,
    but you will starve.
My servants will drink,
    but you will be thirsty.
My servants will rejoice,
    but you will be sad and ashamed.
¹⁴My servants will sing for joy,
    but you will cry in sorrow and despair.
¹⁵Your name will be a curse word among my people,
    for the Sovereign Lord will destroy you
    and will call his true servants by another name.
¹⁶All who invoke a blessing or take an oath
    will do so by the God of truth.
For I will put aside my anger
    and forget the evil of earlier days.

The Righteous and Wicked Contrasted

¹³Therefore, this is what the Lord^[a] says:
“See, my servants will eat,
    but you’ll go hungry;
my servants will drink,
    but you’ll go thirsty;
my servants will rejoice,
    but you’ll be put to shame.
¹⁴My servants will sing in gladness^[b] of heart,
    but you’ll cry for help^[c] from anguish of heart,
        and you’ll howl from brokenness of spirit.
¹⁵You’ll leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse,
    and the Lord God will put you to death permanently.^[d]
¹⁶Then whoever takes an oath^[e] by the God of faithfulness,
    and whoever takes an oath in the land,
        will swear by the God of faithfulness,
because the former troubles are forgotten
    and are hidden from my eyes.

    and wail in brokenness of spirit.
¹⁵You will leave your name
    for my chosen ones to use in their curses;^(I)
the Sovereign Lord will put you to death,
    but to his servants he will give another name.^(J)
¹⁶Whoever invokes a blessing^(K) in the land
    will do so by the one true God;^(L)
whoever takes an oath in the land
    will swear^(M) by the one true God.
For the past troubles^(N) will be forgotten
    and hidden from my eyes.
