4 And (A)the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and (B)the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! (C)For I am lost; (D)for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the (E)King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he (F)touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for (G)us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people:
(H)“‘Keep on hearing,[a] but do not understand;
keep on seeing,[b] but do not perceive.’
10 (I)Make the heart of this people (J)dull,[c]
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
(K)lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.(A)
5 “Woe(B) to me!” I cried. “I am ruined!(C) For I am a man of unclean lips,(D) and I live among a people of unclean lips,(E) and my eyes have seen(F) the King,(G) the Lord Almighty.”(H)
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal(I) in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips;(J) your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.(K)”
8 Then I heard the voice(L) of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?(M) And who will go for us?(N)”
And I said, “Here am I.(O) Send me!”
9 He said, “Go(P) and tell this people:
“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’(Q)
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;(R)
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a](S)
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,(T)
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”(U)
