⁴ No one brings suit justly;
    no one goes to law honestly;
they rely on empty pleas; they speak lies,
    conceiving mischief and bearing iniquity.^(A)

5 Hear this, O priests!
    Give heed, O house of Israel!
Listen, O house of the king!
    For the judgment pertains to you,
for you have been a snare at Mizpah
    and a net spread upon Tabor^(A)

⁴ Their deeds do not permit them
    to return to their God.
For the spirit of prostitution is within them,
    and they do not know the Lord.^(A)

⁶ For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,
    the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.^(A)

² The Lord has an indictment against Judah
    and will punish Jacob according to his ways
    and repay him according to his deeds.^(A)

² Hear, you mountains, the case of the Lord,
    and you enduring foundations of the earth,
for the Lord has a case against his people,
    and he will contend with Israel.^(A)
