For the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel,
    and the man[a] of Judah is the plantation of his delight.
And he waited for justice,[b]
    but look! Bloodshed![c]
For righteousness,[d]
    but look! A cry of distress![e]

Woes on the Wicked

Ah! Those who join[f] house with house,
    they join field together with field
until there is no place[g]
    and you are caused to dwell alone in the midst of the land.

Yahweh of hosts said in my ears:

Surely[h] many houses shall become a desolation,
    large and beautiful ones without inhabitant.

Woes and Judgments

Woe(E) to you who add house to house
    and join field to field(F)
till no space is left
    and you live alone in the land.

The Lord Almighty(G) has declared in my hearing:(H)

“Surely the great houses will become desolate,(I)
    the fine mansions left without occupants.
