Isaiah 5:7-9
Contemporary English Version
7 I am the Lord All-Powerful!
Israel is the vineyard,
and Judah is the garden
I tended with care.
I had hoped for honesty
and for justice,
but dishonesty
and cries for mercy
were all I found.
Isaiah Condemns Social Injustice
8 You are in for trouble! You take over house after house and field after field, until there is no room left for anyone else in all the land. 9 But the Lord All-Powerful has made this promise to me:
Those large and beautiful homes will be left empty, with no one to take care of them.

New International Version
7 The vineyard(A) of the Lord Almighty
is the nation of Israel,
and the people of Judah
are the vines he delighted in.
And he looked for justice,(B) but saw bloodshed;
for righteousness,(C) but heard cries of distress.(D)
Woes and Judgments
8 Woe(E) to you who add house to house
and join field to field(F)
till no space is left
and you live alone in the land.
9 The Lord Almighty(G) has declared in my hearing:(H)
“Surely the great houses will become desolate,(I)
the fine mansions left without occupants.
