2 that they call themselves people of the holy city
or rely on the God of Isra’el —
Adonai-Tzva’ot is his name:
3 “I announced things that happened at the beginning, long ago;
they issued from my mouth, I proclaimed them.
Then suddenly I acted, and they occurred.
4 Because I knew that you were stubborn,
your neck an iron sinew, your forehead bronze,

2 you who call yourselves citizens of the holy city(A)
and claim to rely(B) on the God of Israel—
the Lord Almighty is his name:(C)
3 I foretold the former things(D) long ago,
my mouth announced(E) them and I made them known;
then suddenly(F) I acted, and they came to pass.
4 For I knew how stubborn(G) you were;
your neck muscles(H) were iron,
your forehead(I) was bronze.
