Cyrus, God’s Instrument
45 Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus,
whose right hand I have grasped
to subdue nations before him
and strip kings of their robes,
to open doors before him—
and the gates shall not be closed:
2 I will go before you
and level the mountains,[a]
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
and cut through the bars of iron,
3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
and riches hidden in secret places,
so that you may know that it is I, the Lord,
the God of Israel, who call you by your name.
4 For the sake of my servant Jacob,
and Israel my chosen,
I call you by your name,
I surname you, though you do not know me.
5 I am the Lord, and there is no other;
besides me there is no god.
I arm you, though you do not know me,
6 so that they may know, from the rising of the sun
and from the west, that there is no one besides me;
I am the Lord, and there is no other.
7 I form light and create darkness,
I make weal and create woe;
I the Lord do all these things.
8 Shower, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness;
let the earth open, that salvation may spring up,[b]
and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also;
I the Lord have created it.
9 Woe to you who strive with your Maker,
earthen vessels with the potter![c]
Does the clay say to the one who fashions it, “What are you making”?
or “Your work has no handles”?
10 Woe to anyone who says to a father, “What are you begetting?”
or to a woman, “With what are you in labor?”
11 Thus says the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker:
Will you question me[d] about my children,
or command me concerning the work of my hands?
12 I made the earth,
and created humankind upon it;
it was my hands that stretched out the heavens,
and I commanded all their host.
13 I have aroused Cyrus[e] in righteousness,
and I will make all his paths straight;
he shall build my city
and set my exiles free,
not for price or reward,
says the Lord of hosts.
14 Thus says the Lord:
The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Ethiopia,[f]
and the Sabeans, tall of stature,
shall come over to you and be yours,
they shall follow you;
they shall come over in chains and bow down to you.
They will make supplication to you, saying,
“God is with you alone, and there is no other;
there is no god besides him.”
15 Truly, you are a God who hides himself,
O God of Israel, the Savior.
16 All of them are put to shame and confounded,
the makers of idols go in confusion together.
17 But Israel is saved by the Lord
with everlasting salvation;
you shall not be put to shame or confounded
to all eternity.
18 For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
(he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
(he established it;
he did not create it a chaos,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
I am the Lord, and there is no other.
19 I did not speak in secret,
in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
“Seek me in chaos.”
I the Lord speak the truth,
I declare what is right.
Idols Cannot Save Babylon
20 Assemble yourselves and come together,
draw near, you survivors of the nations!
They have no knowledge—
those who carry about their wooden idols,
and keep on praying to a god
that cannot save.
21 Declare and present your case;
let them take counsel together!
Who told this long ago?
Who declared it of old?
Was it not I, the Lord?
There is no other god besides me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
there is no one besides me.
22 Turn to me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
23 By myself I have sworn,
from my mouth has gone forth in righteousness
a word that shall not return:
“To me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall swear.”
24 Only in the Lord, it shall be said of me,
are righteousness and strength;
all who were incensed against him
shall come to him and be ashamed.
25 In the Lord all the offspring of Israel
shall triumph and glory.

2 «Io camminerò davanti a te e appianerò i luoghi impervi; frantumerò le porte di bronzo, spezzerò le sbarre di ferro;
3 io ti darò i tesori nascosti nelle tenebre, le ricchezze riposte in luoghi segreti, affinché tu riconosca che io sono il Signore che ti chiama per nome, il Dio d’Israele.
4 Per amore di Giacobbe, mio servo, e d’Israele, mio eletto, io ti ho chiamato per nome, ti ho designato, sebbene non mi conoscessi.
5 Io sono il Signore, e non ce n’è alcun altro; fuori di me non c’è altro Dio! Io ti ho preparato, sebbene non mi conoscessi,
6 perché da oriente a occidente si riconosca che non c’è altro Dio fuori di me. Io sono il Signore, e non ce n’è alcun altro.
7 Io formo la luce, creo le tenebre, do il benessere, creo l’avversità; io, il Signore, sono colui che fa tutte queste cose.
8 Cieli, stillate dall’alto; le nuvole facciano piovere la giustizia! Si apra la terra e sia feconda di salvezza; faccia germogliare la giustizia al tempo stesso. Io, il Signore, creo tutto questo».
9 (B)«Guai a colui che contesta il suo Creatore, egli, rottame fra i rottami di vasi di terra! L’argilla dirà forse a colui che la forma: “Che fai?” L’opera tua potrà forse dire: “Egli non ha mani”?
10 Guai a colui che dice a suo padre: “Perché generi?” e a sua madre: “Perché partorisci?”».
11 Così parla il Signore, il Santo d’Israele, colui che l’ha formato: «Voi m’interrogate circa le cose future! Mi date degli ordini circa i miei figli e circa l’opera delle mie mani!
12 Io ho fatto la terra e ho creato l’uomo su di essa; io, con le mie mani, ho spiegato i cieli e comando tutto il loro esercito.
13 Io ho suscitato Ciro, nella giustizia, e appianerò tutte le sue vie; egli ricostruirà la mia città e rimanderà liberi i miei esuli senza prezzo di riscatto e senza doni», dice il Signore degli eserciti.
Benedizioni universali
14 Così parla il Signore: «Il frutto delle fatiche dell’Egitto e del traffico dell’Etiopia e dei Sabei dalla grande statura passerà a te e ti apparterrà; quei popoli cammineranno dietro a te, passeranno incatenati, si prostreranno davanti a te e ti supplicheranno, dicendo: “Certo Dio è in mezzo a te, e non ce n’è alcun altro; non c’è altro Dio”».
15 In verità tu sei un Dio che ti nascondi, o Dio d’Israele, o Salvatore!
16 Saranno svergognati, sì, tutti quanti delusi; se ne andranno tutti assieme coperti di vergogna i fabbricanti d’idoli;
17 ma Israele sarà salvato dal Signore mediante una salvezza eterna; voi non sarete svergognati né delusi, mai più in eterno.
18 Infatti così parla il Signore che ha creato i cieli, il Dio che ha formato la terra, l’ha fatta, l’ha stabilita, non l’ha creata perché rimanesse deserta, ma l’ha formata perché fosse abitata: «Io sono il Signore, e non ce n’è alcun altro.
19 Io non ho parlato in segreto in qualche luogo tenebroso della terra; io non ho detto alla discendenza di Giacobbe: “Cercatemi invano!” Io, il Signore, parlo con giustizia, dichiaro le cose che sono rette.
20 (C)«Adunatevi, venite, accostatevi tutti assieme, voi che siete scampati dalle nazioni! Non hanno intelletto quelli che portano il loro idolo di legno e pregano un dio che non può salvare.
21 Proclamatelo, fateli avvicinare, si consiglino pure assieme! Chi ha annunciato queste cose fin dai tempi antichi e le ha predette da lungo tempo? Non sono forse io, il Signore? Fuori di me non c’è altro Dio, Dio giusto, e non c’è salvatore fuori di me.
22 Volgetevi a me e siate salvati, voi tutte le estremità della terra! Poiché io sono Dio, e non ce n’è alcun altro.
23 Per me stesso io l’ho giurato; è uscita dalla mia bocca una parola di giustizia, e non sarà revocata: ogni ginocchio si piegherà davanti a me[a], ogni lingua mi presterà giuramento.
24 “Solo nel Signore”, si dirà di me, “è la giustizia e la forza”». A lui verranno, pieni di vergogna, quanti si erano adirati contro di lui.
25 Nel Signore sarà giustificata e si glorierà tutta la discendenza d’Israele.

45 So spricht der Herr zu Kyrus, seinem Gesalbten, dessen rechte Hand ich ergriffen habe, um Völker vor ihm niederzuwerfen und die Lenden der Könige zu entgürten, um Türen vor ihm zu öffnen und Tore, damit sie nicht geschlossen bleiben:
2 Ich selbst will vor dir herziehen und das Hügelige eben machen; ich will eherne Türen zerbrechen und eiserne Riegel zerschlagen;
3 und ich will dir verborgene Schätze geben und versteckte Reichtümer, damit du erkennst, dass ich, der Herr, es bin, der dich bei deinem Namen gerufen hat, der Gott Israels.
4 Um Jakobs, meines Knechtes, und Israels, meines Auserwählten willen habe ich dich bei deinem Namen gerufen; und ich habe dir einen Ehrennamen gegeben, ohne dass du mich kanntest.
Der Herr ist der einzige Gott
5 Ich bin der Herr und sonst ist keiner; denn außer mir gibt es keinen Gott. Ich habe dich gegürtet, ohne dass du mich kanntest,
6 damit vom Aufgang der Sonne bis zu ihrem Niedergang erkannt werde, dass gar keiner ist außer mir. Ich bin der Herr, und sonst ist keiner,
7 der ich das Licht mache und die Finsternis schaffe; der ich Frieden gebe und Unheil schaffe. Ich, der Herr, vollbringe dies alles.
8 Träufelt, ihr Himmel, von oben herab, und ihr Wolken, regnet Gerechtigkeit! Die Erde tue sich auf, und es sprosse Heil hervor, und Gerechtigkeit wachse zugleich! Ich, der Herr, habe es geschaffen.
9 Wehe dem, der mit seinem Schöpfer hadert, eine Scherbe unter irdenen Scherben! Spricht wohl der Ton zu seinem Töpfer: »Was machst du?« — oder dein Werk: »Er hat keine Hände«?
10 Wehe dem, der zum Vater spricht: »Warum zeugst du?«, und zur Frau: »Warum gebierst du?«
11 So spricht der Herr, der Heilige Israels und sein Schöpfer: Wegen der Zukunft befragt mich; meine Kinder und das Werk meiner Hände lasst mir anbefohlen sein!
12 Ich habe die Erde gemacht und den Menschen darauf erschaffen; ich habe mit meinen Händen die Himmel ausgespannt und gebiete all ihrem Heer.
13 Ich habe ihn erweckt in Gerechtigkeit und will alle seine Wege ebnen. Er wird meine Stadt bauen und meine Weggeführten loslassen, und zwar weder um Geld noch um Gaben, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
Der Herr rettet Israel und bietet auch den Heiden sein Heil an
14 So hat der Herr gesprochen: Der Erwerb Ägyptens und der Gewinn Kuschs und die Sabäer, Leute von hohem Wuchs, werden zu dir hinüberkommen und dir gehören; dir werden sie nachfolgen und in Fesseln gehen; vor dir werden sie niederfallen und zu dir flehen: »Nur bei dir ist Gott, und sonst gibt es gar keinen anderen Gott!«
15 Fürwahr, du bist ein Gott, der sich verborgen hält, du Gott Israels, du Erretter!
16 Es sollen beschämt und zuschanden werden, es sollen sich allesamt mit Schande davonmachen, die Götzen anfertigen!
17 Israel aber wird durch den Herrn errettet mit einer ewigen Errettung. Ihr sollt nicht beschämt noch zuschanden werden in alle Ewigkeiten!
18 Denn so spricht der Herr, der Schöpfer der Himmel — Er ist Gott —, der die Erde gebildet und bereitet hat — Er hat sie gegründet; nicht als Einöde[a] hat er sie geschaffen, sondern um bewohnt zu sein hat er sie gebildet —: Ich bin der Herr, und sonst ist keiner!
19 Ich habe nicht im Verborgenen geredet, in einem dunklen Winkel der Erde; ich habe zu dem Samen Jakobs nicht gesagt: Sucht mich vergeblich! Ich, der Herr, rede, was recht ist, und verkündige, was richtig ist.
20 Versammelt euch, kommt, tretet miteinander herzu, ihr Entkommenen unter den Heiden! Sie haben keine Erkenntnis, die das Holz ihres Götzen tragen und zu einem Gott beten, der nicht retten kann.
21 Verkündet’s, bringt es vor; ja, sie mögen sich miteinander beraten! Wer hat dies vorzeiten verlauten lassen? Oder wer hat es von Anfang her angekündigt? War ich es nicht, der Herr? Und sonst gibt es keinen anderen Gott, einen gerechten Gott und Erretter; außer mir gibt es keinen!
22 Wendet euch zu mir, so werdet ihr gerettet, all ihr Enden der Erde; denn ich bin Gott und keiner sonst!
23 Ich habe bei mir selbst geschworen, aus meinem Mund ist Gerechtigkeit hervorgegangen, ein Wort, das nicht zurückgenommen wird: Ja, mir soll sich jedes Knie beugen und jede Zunge schwören!
24 Nur in dem Herrn, wird man von mir sagen, habe ich Gerechtigkeit und Stärke! Zu ihm wird man kommen; aber beschämt werden alle, die sich gegen ihn auflehnten.
25 In dem Herrn wird gerechtfertigt werden und sich rühmen der ganze Same Israels.

45 Ezt mondja Círusznak az Örökkévaló, aki őt fölkent királlyá tette:
„Kézen fogtalak, én fogom a jobbodat,
hogy a nemzeteket meghódoltassam előtted,
s a királyoktól hatalmukat elvedd,
hogy a kapukat kinyissam előtted,
s egyetlen város se maradjon zárva.
2 Előtted megyek,
síksággá teszem a hegyeket,
a tekervényes utakat kiegyenesítem,
összetöröm a súlyos bronzkapukat,
vas-záraikat letöröm.
3 Neked adom a sötétségben elrejtett kincseket,
és a titkos rejtekhelyek gazdagságát,
hogy megtudd:
Én vagyok az Örökkévaló, Izráel Istene,
aki neveden szólítalak.
4 Szolgámért, Jákóbért, és választottamért, Izráelért
neveden szólítottalak, királlyá tettelek,
pedig nem ismertél.
5 Nem tudtad, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
nincs más Isten rajtam kívül.
Bár nem ismertél,
mégis megerősítettelek,

9 Nézzétek őket!
Még Alkotójukkal is perlekednek,
pedig csak agyagcserepek a többi cserép között!
Mondhatja-e a korsó a fazekasnak: „Mit csinálsz?”
Vagy ezt: „Nincs hatalmad fölöttem!”
10 Nézzétek! Apjának szemére hányja:
„Minek adtál nekem életet?”
Anyjának meg ezt mondja:
„Miért szültél engem?”
11 Ezt mondja az Örökkévaló,
Izráel Szentje és Teremtőtök:
„Ti akartok kérdőre vonni engem a jövő felől,
vagy arról, hogyan bántam gyermekeimmel,
akiket saját kezem formál?!
12 Hiszen én alkottam a földet,
s én teremtettem az embert, hogy lakjon rajta!
Kezem terjesztette ki az eget,

14 Ezt mondja az Örökkévaló:
„Tiéd lesz Egyiptom gazdagsága,
és Etiópia összegyűjtött kincse.
A magas termetű szabeusok hozzád mennek,
szolgáid lesznek,
láncra verve követnek,
s lábad előtt leborulnak.
Így könyörögnek:
»Bizony, Isten csak közöttetek lakik,
és rajta kívül nincs más Isten!«”
15 Bizony, a rejtőzködő Isten közöttetek van,
Izráel Istene a Szabadítótok!
16 Akik bálványokat készítenek,
mind csalódni fognak,
gyalázat éri őket.
Bizony, mindannyian megszégyenülnek!
17 De Izráelt az Örökkévaló örökre megszabadítja,
szégyen és gyalázat többé nem éri őket!
18 Mert ezt mondja az Örökkévaló,
aki az eget teremtette,
Isten, aki a földet formálta és alkotta,
de nem kietlen pusztaságnak,
hanem lakóhelynek készítette:
„Én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
nincs más Isten kívülem!
19 Nem titokban szóltam,

Nem azt mondtam Jákób népének:
Keressetek, de hiába,
mert úgysem találhattok meg!

20 Hát gyűljetek hozzám!
Jöjjetek közel mind,
akik a népek közül megmenekültetek!”

Olyan istenhez könyörögnek,
aki semmit sem segít, hisz tehetetlen!
21 Hát tanácskozzatok csak,
adjátok elő érveiteket!
Mondjátok meg nekem:
Ősidőktől fogva volt-e valaha ilyen?
Ki tudta ezt előre megmondani közületek?
Bizony, nem volt senki,
és nincs ma sem.
Én vagyok az Örökkévaló egyedül,
Igazságos Isten, Szabadító!
Nincs más Isten kívülem!
22 Rám nézzetek,
a föld széléről is hozzám jöjjetek,
hogy megmeneküljetek,
hiszen egyedül én vagyok Isten,
nincs senki más!
23 Megesküdtem önmagamra,
igazságot mondtam,
szavam visszavonhatatlan:
mindenki térdet fog hajtani előttem,
mindenki rám esküszik,
24 és így szólnak rólam:
»Bizony, csak az Örökkévalótól származik
az üdvösség és erő!«
Ezért jönnek hozzám mindannyian!”
Akik pedig lázadtak ellene,
mind kudarcot és szégyent vallanak.
25 Izráel népe is az Örökkévalóban dicsekszik,
aki magához fogadja őket,
mint saját gyermekeit.

L’artisan et son œuvre
9 Malheur à qui conteste |avec son créateur !
Qu’es-tu de plus qu’un pot de terre |parmi des pots de terre ?
L’argile dira-t-elle |à celui qui la forme :
« Qu’es-tu en train de faire ? »
ou l’œuvre à son potier : |« Tu n’es qu’un maladroit[c] ! » ?
10 Malheur à qui dit à un père :
« Qu’as-tu engendré là ? »
ou bien à une femme :
« Qu’as-tu donc mis au monde ? »
11 Ainsi dit l’Eternel, |lui le Saint d’Israël,
lui qui l’a façonné :
Oserez-vous me questionner |sur ce qui doit venir,
ou me donnerez-vous des ordres |au sujet de mes fils |et au sujet de l’œuvre |que mes mains ont réalisée ?
12 C’est moi, moi qui ai fait la terre
et qui, sur elle, ai créé l’homme.
C’est moi, ce sont mes mains |qui ont tendu le ciel,
et je donne des ordres |à toute son armée.
13 C’est moi qui, selon la justice, |ai fait surgir cet homme[d].
J’aplanirai toutes ses voies.
Lui, il rebâtira ma ville,
et il libérera les miens |que l’on a déportés

Des peuples non israélites se rallient à l’Eternel
14 Ainsi dit l’Eternel :
Les profits de l’Egypte, |les gains de l’Ethiopie
et des gens de Seba, |si hauts de taille,
tout cela passera chez toi, |cela t’appartiendra.
Ces peuples viendront à ta suite
en marchant enchaînés
et ils se prosterneront devant toi
en te disant |sur un ton suppliant :
« C’est chez toi seulement |que l’on peut trouver Dieu,
et en dehors de lui, |il n’y en a pas d’autre,
car tous les autres dieux |ne sont que du néant. »
15 En vérité, ô Dieu, |toi, tu es un Dieu qui te caches,
Dieu d’Israël et son Sauveur.
16 Les fabricants d’idoles
sont honteux et confus,
ils s’en vont tous ensemble |couverts d’opprobre.
17 Israël, pour toujours, |sera sauvé par l’Eternel
et vous ne serez plus jamais
ni honteux ni confus.
18 Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel
qui a créé le ciel, |lui qui est Dieu,
et qui a fait la terre,
qui l’a formée et affermie,
il ne l’a pas créée |à l’état chaotique,
mais il l’a façonnée |pour que l’on y habite :
Moi, je suis l’Eternel ;
il n’y en a pas d’autre.
19 Je n’ai pas parlé en secret
ni dans un coin ténébreux de la terre,
car aux descendants de Jacob, |je n’ai pas dit :
« Recherchez-moi dans le chaos. »
Moi, je suis l’Eternel, |je dis ce qui est juste,
je proclame ce qui est droit.
20 Rassemblez-vous, venez,
approchez tous ensemble,
rescapés des nations !
Ils sont sans connaissance,
ceux qui portent bien haut |leurs idoles de bois
et invoquent un dieu

21 Exposez votre cause, |avancez vos raisons[e],
délibérez ensemble.
Qui donc a fait savoir ces choses |dès le lointain passé,
et qui, depuis longtemps, |les avait annoncées ?
N’est-ce pas moi, |moi, l’Eternel ?
Et en dehors de moi, |il n’y a pas de Dieu.
Oui, en dehors de moi
il n’est pas de Dieu juste, |de Dieu qui sauve.
22 Tournez-vous donc vers moi, |et vous serez sauvés,
vous tous qui habitez |les confins de la terre !
Car moi seul je suis Dieu,
il n’y en a pas d’autre.
23 J’en ai fait le serment |en jurant par moi-même,
ma bouche a prononcé |une parole juste
qui est irrévocable :
Devant moi tout genou ploiera
et toute langue |prêtera serment par mon nom[f],
24 disant à mon sujet :
« C’est en l’Eternel seul
que résident pour moi |la justice et la force. »
A lui viendront, honteux,
tous ceux qui, contre lui, |s’étaient mis en colère.
25 C’est grâce à l’Eternel
que tout le peuple d’Israël |sera justifié
et ils s’en féliciteront.
