Restoration and Protection Promised
43 But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
Ethiopia[a] and Seba in exchange for you.
4 Because you are precious in my sight,
and honored, and I love you,
I give people in return for you,
nations in exchange for your life.
5 Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your offspring from the east,
and from the west I will gather you;
6 I will say to the north, “Give them up,”
and to the south, “Do not withhold;
bring my sons from far away
and my daughters from the end of the earth—
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
8 Bring forth the people who are blind, yet have eyes,
who are deaf, yet have ears!
9 Let all the nations gather together,
and let the peoples assemble.
Who among them declared this,
and foretold to us the former things?
Let them bring their witnesses to justify them,
and let them hear and say, “It is true.”
10 You are my witnesses, says the Lord,
and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor shall there be any after me.
11 I, I am the Lord,
and besides me there is no savior.
12 I declared and saved and proclaimed,
when there was no strange god among you;
and you are my witnesses, says the Lord.
13 I am God, and also henceforth I am He;
there is no one who can deliver from my hand;
I work and who can hinder it?
14 Thus says the Lord,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
For your sake I will send to Babylon
and break down all the bars,
and the shouting of the Chaldeans will be turned to lamentation.[b]
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
the Creator of Israel, your King.
16 Thus says the Lord,
who makes a way in the sea,
a path in the mighty waters,
17 who brings out chariot and horse,
army and warrior;
they lie down, they cannot rise,
they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
18 Do not remember the former things,
or consider the things of old.
19 I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
20 The wild animals will honor me,
the jackals and the ostriches;
for I give water in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my chosen people,
21 the people whom I formed for myself
so that they might declare my praise.
22 Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob;
but you have been weary of me, O Israel!
23 You have not brought me your sheep for burnt offerings,
or honored me with your sacrifices.
I have not burdened you with offerings,
or wearied you with frankincense.
24 You have not bought me sweet cane with money,
or satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices.
But you have burdened me with your sins;
you have wearied me with your iniquities.
25 I, I am He
who blots out your transgressions for my own sake,
and I will not remember your sins.
26 Accuse me, let us go to trial;
set forth your case, so that you may be proved right.
27 Your first ancestor sinned,
and your interpreters transgressed against me.
28 Therefore I profaned the princes of the sanctuary,
I delivered Jacob to utter destruction,
and Israel to reviling.
God’s Blessing on Israel
44 But now hear, O Jacob my servant,
Israel whom I have chosen!
2 Thus says the Lord who made you,
who formed you in the womb and will help you:
Do not fear, O Jacob my servant,
Jeshurun whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my spirit upon your descendants,
and my blessing on your offspring.
4 They shall spring up like a green tamarisk,
like willows by flowing streams.
5 This one will say, “I am the Lord’s,”
another will be called by the name of Jacob,
yet another will write on the hand, “The Lord’s,”
and adopt the name of Israel.
6 Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel,
and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.
7 Who is like me? Let them proclaim it,
let them declare and set it forth before me.
Who has announced from of old the things to come?[c]
Let them tell us[d] what is yet to be.
8 Do not fear, or be afraid;
have I not told you from of old and declared it?
You are my witnesses!
Is there any god besides me?
There is no other rock; I know not one.
The Absurdity of Idol Worship
9 All who make idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit; their witnesses neither see nor know. And so they will be put to shame. 10 Who would fashion a god or cast an image that can do no good? 11 Look, all its devotees shall be put to shame; the artisans too are merely human. Let them all assemble, let them stand up; they shall be terrified, they shall all be put to shame.
12 The ironsmith fashions it[e] and works it over the coals, shaping it with hammers, and forging it with his strong arm; he becomes hungry and his strength fails, he drinks no water and is faint. 13 The carpenter stretches a line, marks it out with a stylus, fashions it with planes, and marks it with a compass; he makes it in human form, with human beauty, to be set up in a shrine. 14 He cuts down cedars or chooses a holm tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it. 15 Then it can be used as fuel. Part of it he takes and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Then he makes a god and worships it, makes it a carved image and bows down before it. 16 Half of it he burns in the fire; over this half he roasts meat, eats it and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says, “Ah, I am warm, I can feel the fire!” 17 The rest of it he makes into a god, his idol, bows down to it and worships it; he prays to it and says, “Save me, for you are my god!”
18 They do not know, nor do they comprehend; for their eyes are shut, so that they cannot see, and their minds as well, so that they cannot understand. 19 No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals, I roasted meat and have eaten. Now shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” 20 He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot save himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a fraud?”
Israel Is Not Forgotten
21 Remember these things, O Jacob,
and Israel, for you are my servant;
I formed you, you are my servant;
O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
22 I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud,
and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.
23 Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it;
shout, O depths of the earth;
break forth into singing, O mountains,
O forest, and every tree in it!
For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
and will be glorified in Israel.
24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord, who made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who by myself spread out the earth;
25 who frustrates the omens of liars,
and makes fools of diviners;
who turns back the wise,
and makes their knowledge foolish;
26 who confirms the word of his servant,
and fulfills the prediction of his messengers;
who says of Jerusalem, “It shall be inhabited,”
and of the cities of Judah, “They shall be rebuilt,
and I will raise up their ruins”;
27 who says to the deep, “Be dry—
I will dry up your rivers”;
28 who says of Cyrus, “He is my shepherd,
and he shall carry out all my purpose”;
and who says of Jerusalem, “It shall be rebuilt,”
and of the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid.”

43 (A)Ma ora così parla il Signore, il tuo Creatore, o Giacobbe, colui che ti ha formato, o Israele: «Non temere, perché io ti ho riscattato, ti ho chiamato per nome; tu sei mio!
2 Quando dovrai attraversare le acque, io sarò con te; quando attraverserai i fiumi, essi non ti sommergeranno; quando camminerai nel fuoco non sarai bruciato e la fiamma non ti consumerà,
3 perché io sono il Signore, il tuo Dio, il Santo d’Israele, il tuo Salvatore; io ho dato l’Egitto come tuo riscatto, l’Etiopia e Seba al tuo posto.
4 Perché tu sei prezioso ai miei occhi, sei stimato e io ti amo, io do degli uomini al tuo posto e dei popoli in cambio della tua vita.
5 Non temere, perché io sono con te; io ricondurrò la tua discendenza da oriente e ti raccoglierò da occidente.
6 Dirò al settentrione: “Da’!” e al mezzogiorno: “Non trattenere!” Fa’ venire i miei figli da lontano e le mie figlie dalle estremità della terra[a]:
7 tutti quelli cioè che portano il mio nome, che io ho creati per la mia gloria, che ho formati, che ho fatti.
8 (B)«Fa’ uscire il popolo cieco che ha occhi, e i sordi che hanno orecchi!
9 Si adunino tutte assieme le nazioni, si riuniscano i popoli! Chi tra di loro può annunciare queste cose e farci udire delle predizioni antiche? Procurino i loro testimoni e stabiliscano il loro diritto, affinché, dopo averli uditi, si dica: “È vero!”
10 I miei testimoni siete voi», dice il Signore, «voi e il mio servo che io ho scelto, affinché voi lo sappiate, mi crediate e riconosciate che io sono. Prima di me nessun Dio fu formato, e dopo di me non ve ne sarà nessuno.
11 Io, io sono il Signore, e fuori di me non c’è salvatore.
12 Io ho annunciato, salvato, predetto, e non un dio straniero in mezzo a voi; voi me ne siete testimoni», dice il Signore; «io sono Dio.
13 Da che fu il giorno, io sono; nessuno può liberare dalla mia mano; io opererò. Chi potrà impedire la mia opera?»
14 (C)Così parla il Signore, il vostro Redentore, il Santo d’Israele: «Per amor vostro io mando il nemico contro Babilonia; volgerò tutti in fuga e i Caldei scenderanno sulle navi di cui sono così fieri.
15 Io sono il Signore, il vostro Santo, il creatore d’Israele, il vostro re».
16 Così parla il Signore, che aprì una strada nel mare e un sentiero fra le acque potenti,
17 che fece uscire carri e cavalli, un esercito di prodi guerrieri; tutti quanti furono atterrati e mai più si rialzarono; furono estinti, spenti come un lucignolo.
18 «Non ricordate più le cose passate, non considerate più le cose antiche.
19 Ecco, io sto per fare una cosa nuova; essa sta per germogliare; non la riconoscerete? Sì, io aprirò una strada nel deserto, farò scorrere dei fiumi nella steppa.
20 Le bestie dei campi, gli sciacalli e gli struzzi mi glorificheranno, perché avrò dato l’acqua al deserto, fiumi alla steppa, per dar da bere al mio popolo, al mio eletto.
21 Il popolo che mi sono formato proclamerà le mie lodi.
22 (D)«Tu non mi hai invocato, Giacobbe, anzi ti sei stancato di me, Israele!
23 Tu non mi hai portato l’agnello dei tuoi olocausti e non mi hai onorato con i tuoi sacrifici; io non ti ho tormentato con richieste di offerte, né ti ho stancato domandandoti incenso.
24 Tu non hai comprato con denaro canna odorosa per me e non mi hai saziato con il grasso dei tuoi sacrifici; ma tu mi hai tormentato con i tuoi peccati, mi hai stancato con le tue iniquità.
25 Io, io, sono colui che per amore di me stesso cancello le tue trasgressioni e non mi ricorderò più dei tuoi peccati.
26 Risveglia la mia memoria, discutiamo assieme, parla tu stesso per giustificarti!
27 Il tuo primo progenitore ha peccato, i tuoi mediatori si sono ribellati a me;
28 perciò io ho trattato come profani i capi del santuario, ho votato Giacobbe allo sterminio, ho abbandonato Israele all’infamia.
Il Signore e gli idoli
44 (E)«Ora ascolta, Giacobbe, mio servo, o Israele, che io ho scelto!
2 Così parla il Signore che ti ha fatto, che ti ha formato fin dal seno materno, colui che ti soccorre: “Non temere, Giacobbe, mio servo, o Iesurun[b], che io ho scelto!”
3 Io infatti spanderò le acque sul suolo assetato e i ruscelli sull’arida terra; spanderò il mio Spirito sulla tua discendenza e la mia benedizione sui tuoi rampolli;
4 essi germoglieranno come in mezzo all’erba, come salici in riva a correnti d’acque.
5 L’uno dirà: “Io sono del Signore”, l’altro si chiamerà Giacobbe, e un altro scriverà sulla sua mano: “Del Signore”, e si onorerà di portare il nome d’Israele.
6 (F)«Così parla il Signore, re d’Israele e suo Redentore, il Signore degli eserciti: “Io sono il primo e sono l’ultimo, e fuori di me non c’è Dio.
7 Chi, come me, proclama l’avvenire fin da quando fondai questo popolo antico? Che egli lo dichiari e me lo provi! Lo annuncino essi l’avvenire, e quanto avverrà!
8 Non vi spaventate, non temete! Non te l’ho io annunciato e dichiarato da tempo? Voi me ne siete testimoni. C’è forse un Dio fuori di me? Non c’è altra Rocca; io non ne conosco nessuna”».
9 Quelli che fabbricano immagini scolpite sono tutti vanità; i loro idoli più cari non giovano a nulla; i loro testimoni non vedono, non capiscono nulla, perché essi siano coperti di vergogna.
10 Chi fabbrica un dio o fonde un’immagine che non gli serva a nulla?
11 Ecco, tutti quelli che vi lavorano saranno coperti di vergogna, e gli artefici stessi non sono che uomini! Si radunino tutti, si presentino! Saranno spaventati e coperti di vergogna tutti insieme.
12 Il fabbro lima il ferro, lo mette nel fuoco, forma l’idolo a colpi di martello e lo lavora con braccio vigoroso; soffre perfino la fame e la forza gli viene meno, non beve acqua e si affatica.
13 Il falegname stende la sua corda, disegna l’idolo con la matita, lo lavora con lo scalpello, lo misura con il compasso, ne fa una figura umana, una bella forma d’uomo, perché abiti una casa.
14 Si tagliano dei cedri, si prendono degli elci, delle querce, si fa la scelta fra gli alberi della foresta, si piantano dei pini che la pioggia fa crescere.
15 Poi tutto questo serve all’uomo per fare fuoco, ed egli ne prende per riscaldarsi, ne accende anche il forno per cuocere il pane; e ne fa pure un dio e lo adora, ne scolpisce un’immagine, davanti alla quale si inginocchia.
16 Ne brucia la metà nel fuoco, con l’altra metà prepara la carne, la fa arrostire e si sazia. Poi si scalda e dice: «Ah! mi riscaldo, godo a veder questa fiamma!»
17 Con l’avanzo si fa un dio, il suo idolo, gli si prostra davanti, lo adora, lo prega e gli dice: «Salvami, perché tu sei il mio dio!»
18 Non sanno nulla, non capiscono nulla; hanno impiastrato loro gli occhi perché non vedano e il cuore perché non comprendano.
19 Nessuno rientra in se stesso e ha conoscimento e intelletto per dire: «Ne ho bruciato la metà nel fuoco, sui suoi carboni ho fatto cuocere il pane, vi ho arrostito la carne che ho mangiata; con il resto farei un idolo abominevole? Mi inginocchierei davanti a un pezzo di legno?»
20 Un tale uomo si pasce di cenere, il suo cuore sviato lo inganna al punto che non può liberarsene e dire: «Ciò che stringo nella mia destra non è forse una menzogna?»
Ritorno d’Israele; intervento di Ciro
21 (G)«Ricòrdati di queste cose, o Giacobbe, o Israele, perché tu sei mio servo; io ti ho formato, tu sei il mio servo, Israele, tu non sarai da me dimenticato.
22 Io ho fatto sparire le tue trasgressioni come una densa nube, e i tuoi peccati come una nuvola; torna a me, perché io ti ho riscattato».
23 Cantate, o cieli, poiché il Signore ha operato! Giubilate, o profondità della terra! Prorompete in grida di gioia, o montagne, o foreste con tutti gli alberi vostri! Poiché il Signore ha riscattato Giacobbe e manifesta la sua gloria in Israele!
24 Così parla il Signore, il tuo Redentore, colui che ti ha formato fin dal seno materno: «Io sono il Signore, che ha fatto tutte le cose; io solo ho spiegato i cieli, ho disteso la terra, senza che vi fosse nessuno con me.
25 Io rendo vani i presagi degli impostori e rendo insensati gli indovini; io faccio indietreggiare i saggi e muto la loro scienza in follia.
26 Io confermo la parola del mio servo e realizzo le predizioni dei miei messaggeri; io dico di Gerusalemme: “Essa sarà abitata!” Delle città di Giuda dico: “Saranno ricostruite e io ne rialzerò le rovine”.
27 Io dico all’abisso: “Fatti asciutto. Io prosciugherò i tuoi fiumi!”
28 Io dico di Ciro: “Egli è il mio pastore; egli adempirà tutta la mia volontà, dicendo a Gerusalemme: ‘Sarai ricostruita!’ e al tempio: ‘Le tue fondamenta saranno gettate!’”».

„Ne félj, mert megváltottalak!
Neveden szólítottalak, enyém vagy!
2 Mikor vízen kelsz át,
veled vagyok.
Ha folyókon,
azok el nem borítanak.
Mikor tűzön mész keresztül,
téged meg nem éget,
lángja nem emészt meg,
3 mert én vagyok Istened, az Örökkévaló,
Izráel Szentje, Szabadítód.
Váltságodul Egyiptomot adtam cserébe.
Etiópiát és Szebát adtam érted,
hogy enyém lehess.
4 Mivel drága vagy nekem,
kedves és értékes,
s mert nagyon szeretlek,
hát népeket adok érted,
s életedért cserébe nemzeteket.
5 Ne félj, mert melletted vagyok,
elhozom keletről fiaidat,

Előttem nem volt más Isten,
és utánam sem lesz senki más!
11 Egyedül én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
rajtam kívül nincs más Szabadító!
12 Én szóltam hozzátok,
én szabadítottalak meg titeket,
én jelentettem ki a múltat és jövőt.
Igen, én tettem ezt,
nem valami idegen isten!
Ti vagytok tanúim,
hogy én vagyok Isten egyedül!
— ezt mondja az Örökkévaló. —
13 Mindig is én voltam,
ezután is én leszek Isten egyedül!
Nincs senki, aki kezemből kivehetne,
nincs, aki megmásíthatná, amit teszek!”
14 Ezt mondja Megváltótok, az Örökkévaló, Izráel Szentje:
„Értetek küldök seregeket Babilóniába,
megalázom a káldeusokat.
Fogságba hurcolják őket a saját hajóikon,
amelyekre oly büszkék voltak.[b]
15 Én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
én vagyok számotokra a Szent,
Izráel Teremtője, s a Királyotok!”
Ne gondoljatok többé a régi dolgokra!
16 Az Örökkévaló nyitott utat népének a tengeren át,
ösvényt a mély vízen keresztül.
17 Kihozta az egyiptomiakat,
harci szekerekkel és lovasokkal,
az egész hatalmas sereget,
amely most ott fekszik,
többé föl nem kel soha,
mert életük lángja kialudt,
ellobbant, mint a mécses.
Ezt mondja az Örökkévaló,
aki mindezeket tette:
18 „Ne gondoljatok többé a régi dolgokra,
ne az emlékeken tűnődjetek!
19 Nézzétek! Most valami újat kezdek!
Már sarjad is, mint a zsenge vetés,
nem vettétek észre?
A pusztában utat készítek,
a kietlen sivatagban folyókat fakasztok.
20 Még a vadállatok is dicsőíteni fognak engem,
a pusztai sakálok és struccok,
mert a kietlenben vizet fakasztok,
a sivatagban folyókat nyitok,
hogy inni adjak népemnek,
választottaimnak.
21 Igen, a népnek,
amelyet magamnak alkottam,
s amely hirdeti majd dicséretemet.”
22 „De mégsem hozzám kiáltottál, Jákób!
Meguntál engem, Izráel!
23 Nem hoztál nekem bárányaidból égőáldozatnak valót,
nem tiszteltél véresáldozatokkal.
Pedig nem terheltelek ételáldozatokkal,
nem fárasztottalak tömjént követelve.
24 Nem vettél nekem jó illatú nádat,
nem hoztál elém jó szívvel ajándékokat,
csak bűneiddel terheltél,
vétkeid sokaságával fárasztottál.
25 Én, egyedül én törlöm el bűneidet,
önmagamért,
és vétkeidre többé nem emlékezem!
26 Emlékeztess, pereljünk egymással!
Add elő érveidet!
Igazold magad, ha tudod!
27 Hiszen már ősapád is vétkezett,
vezetőid[c] is vétkeztek ellenem mindannyian!
28 Hát én is hagytam,
hogy szent helyem papjait meggyalázzák,
engedtem, hogy Jákóbot pusztítsák,
és megszégyenítsék Izráelt.”
Vizet öntök a szomjas földre
44 „Figyelj most rám, szolgám, Jákób!
Halljad Izráel, akit választottam!
2 Az Örökkévaló mondja ezt neked,
aki téged teremtett és megformált,
anyád méhétől fogva segít és támogat:
Ne félj szolgám, Jákób,
választottam, Jesúrún,[d]
3 mert vizet öntök a szomjas földre,
s elárasztom a sivatagot,
Kiöntöm Szellemem gyermekeidre,
s áldásomat utódaidra.
4 Úgy virulnak, mint fű a vízparton,
növekednek, mint fűzfák a folyó mellett.
5 Az egyik azt mondja:
ez a nevem: »Én az Örökkévalóé vagyok!«
Őt »Jákóbnak« nevezik.
A másik ezt írja kezére: »Az Örökkévaló tulajdona«.
Őt meg »Izráelnek« hívják.”
6 Ezt mondja az Örökkévaló, Izráel Királya és Megváltója, a Seregek Ura:
„Én vagyok a kezdet és a befejezés,
nincs más Isten rajtam kívül.
7 Kicsoda olyan, mint én?
Álljon elő, és szóljon!
Mondja el, mi történt az ősidők óta,
vagy hirdesse ki a jövendőt,
mondja meg, mi következik!
8 De ti ne féljetek a jövőtől,
ne aggódjatok miatta!
Hiszen én megmondtam nektek,
régóta tudattam veletek,
ti vagytok tanúim!
Hát van-e más Isten kívülem?
Nincs más Kőszikla,
bizony, nincs!”
A bálványimádás kigúnyolása
9 Akik bálványokat készítenek,
mind értelmetlenek,
kedvenceik pedig tehetetlenek!
A bálványok imádói mind vakok és ostobák,
nem tudják, hogy csalódni fognak.
10 Ki olyan ostoba, hogy istent farag magának?
Kicsoda készít bálványszobrot,
amely tehetetlen és haszontalan?
11 Nézzétek!
Akik a bálványokhoz ragaszkodnak,
mind csalódni fognak.
Hiszen a bálványok készítői is csak emberek!
Hát gyűljenek össze, álljanak csak elő,
majd megrémülnek
és megszégyenülnek valamennyien!
12 A kovács forgatja szerszámait,
izzó parázson formálja a vasat,
erős karjával kalapálja,
hogy bálványt készítsen belőle.
De ha megéhezik a kovács, elfogy az ereje,
ha megszomjazik, kimerül.
13 A fafaragó mester zsinórral megjelöli[e] a fát,
körzővel méri,
gyalulja, vési, kalapálja,
férfi formájúra alakítja,
emberi vonásokkal ékesíti,
bálványszobrot készít belőle,
a házi szentélybe.
14 Ehhez maga választ fát az erdőn,
fenyőt, tölgyet, vagy más fát, sudár termetűt.
Vagy elülteti, és várja,
hogy az eső fölnevelje.
15 Egyik része jó lesz tűzifának,
befűt vele, kenyeret süt,
melegszik a lángja mellett.
Maradékából meg istent farag magának,
és azt imádja!
Saját kezével készítette,
mégis leborul előtte!
16 Felét már eltüzelte,
húst sütött a parázson,
jól is lakott vele.
A tűznél üldögél, és ezt mondja:
„De jól felmelegedtem,
míg a tűz mellett ültem!”
17 Ami marad a fából,
abból istent készít magának!
Bálványszobrot, hogy leboruljon előtte,
imádja és könyörögjön neki:
„Ments meg engem,
hiszen te vagy istenem!”
18 Nincs bennük egy szikrányi értelem!
Ennyire ostobák hogy lehetnek?
Van szemük, mégsem látnak?
Értelmük ennyire elhomályosult?
19 Egyikük sem kap észbe,
meg sem gondolja,
hogy ezt mondaná:
„Hiszen a fának egyik felét tűzre tettem,
parazsánál kenyeret, húst sütöttem,
s azt megettem.
Hát a másik feléből utálatos bálványt csináljak?
Egy faragott fatuskót imádjak?”
20 Bizony, megcsalt szíve vezeti félre azt,
aki hamuban gyönyörködik,
s a fatuskót imádja!
Ezért nem mentheti meg lelkét,
ezért nem veszi észre,
hogy amit istenként imád:
puszta hazugság!
Rólam soha el ne felejtkezz, Izráel!
21 „De te, Jákób, jól gondold meg ezeket!
Izráel, te engem szolgálsz,
nem idegen isteneket!
Én formáltalak téged,
hogy szolgám légy,
rólam soha el ne felejtkezz, Izráel!
22 Vétkeidet én töröltem el,
mint szél a fellegeket.
Eltöröltem bűneidet,
mint napsugár a reggeli ködöt.
Megváltottalak,
hát térj vissza hozzám, Izráel!”
23 Énekeljen az ég és a föld,
mert az Örökkévaló véghezvitte!
Kiáltsatok, föld mélységei,
ujjongjatok, hegyek és erdők,
táncoljanak mind a fák,
mert az Örökkévaló megváltotta Jákóbot,
dicsőségét megmutatta Izráel által!
Prófécia Círuszról
24 Ezt mondja az Örökkévaló,
Megváltód, aki az anyaméhben kiformált:
„Én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
a mindenség Teremtője,
aki egymaga kiterjesztette az eget,
és kiformálta a földet.
Ki segített nekem?
25 Én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
aki a jósok jeleit semmivé teszi,
a varázslókból bolondot csinál,
a bölcseket meghátrálásra készteti,
s tudományuk bolondságát leleplezi.
26 Én vagyok az Örökkévaló,
aki szolgáinak szavát beteljesíti,
s küldöttei tanácsát véghezviszi.
Ezt mondom Jeruzsálemnek:
»Ismét lakjanak benne!«
és Júda városainak: »Épüljetek újjá!
Romjaitokat ismét felépítem!«
27 Ezt mondom a mélységes tengernek:
»Száradj ki!«
és a folyóknak:
»Vizetek kiszárítom!«
28 Ezt mondom Círusznak:[f]
»Pásztorom vagy,
aki véghezviszed minden tervemet,
mikor azt mondod Jeruzsálemnek:
Építsenek fel!
A Templomnak pedig:

43 Maintenant, l’Eternel |qui t’a créé, |ô peuple de Jacob,
et qui t’a façonné, |ô Israël,
te déclare ceci :
Ne sois pas effrayé
car je t’ai délivré,
je t’ai appelé par ton nom,
tu es à moi.
2 Quand tu passeras par les eaux,
je serai avec toi,
quand tu traverseras les fleuves,
ils ne te submergeront pas,
quand tu marcheras dans le feu,
il ne te fera pas de mal
et par les flammes tu ne seras pas brûlé,
3 puisque moi, l’Eternel, |je suis ton Dieu,
le Saint d’Israël, ton Sauveur.
Je donnerai l’Egypte |comme rançon pour toi,
l’Ethiopie et Seba |en échange de toi.
4 Oui, parce que tu m’es précieux,
et que tu as du prix pour moi, |et que je t’aime,
je donnerai des hommes |en échange de toi,
et des peuples contre ta vie.
5 Sois donc sans crainte,
car je suis avec toi,
je ferai revenir |tes enfants de l’orient
je te rassemblerai |de l’occident.
6 Je dirai au septentrion : |« Rends-les ! »
Et au midi : |« Ne les retiens donc pas !
Fais revenir mes fils |des pays éloignés,

Un peuple de témoins
9 Que toutes les nations s’assemblent
et que les peuples se regroupent !
Qui, parmi eux, |avait prédit ces choses ?
Qui avait annoncé |les événements antérieurs ?
Qu’ils citent leurs témoins |et qu’ils se justifient !
Qu’on les écoute bien |afin de pouvoir dire :
« Oui, c’est la vérité ! »
10 Mais mes témoins, c’est vous,
déclare l’Eternel,
votre peuple est le serviteur, |que je me suis choisi,
pour que vous le sachiez,
que vous croyiez en moi
et que vous compreniez |que moi seul, je suis Dieu.
Avant moi aucun dieu |ne fut jamais formé,
et après moi, jamais |il n’en existera.
11 Moi, je suis l’Eternel
et, en dehors de moi, |il n’est pas de Sauveur.
12 C’est moi qui ai prédit, |c’est moi qui ai sauvé, |je me suis fait entendre.
Pas un dieu étranger |ne l’a fait parmi vous,
et vous, déclare l’Eternel,
vous êtes mes témoins,
et c’est moi qui suis Dieu.
13 Oui, je le suis depuis toujours
et personne ne peut |délivrer de ma main.
Ce que je réalise, |qui pourrait l’annuler ?
Dieu intervient
14 Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel
votre Libérateur, |moi le Saint d’Israël :
C’est à cause de vous |que j’envoie une armée |combattre Babylone,
et que je fais descendre[a] |tous les Chaldéens qui s’enfuient
sur les navires mêmes |où ils criaient de joie.
15 Moi, l’Eternel, |je suis votre Dieu saint,
le Créateur d’Israël, votre Roi.
Un chemin à travers le désert
16 Ainsi dit l’Eternel,
qui, à travers la mer, |a ouvert un chemin
et, dans les grosses eaux, |a frayé un sentier[b],
17 qui fit sortir |les chars et les chevaux,
l’armée et ses guerriers.
Ils se sont tous couchés
et ne se relèveront pas,
ils se sont consumés
et ils se sont éteints |comme la mèche d’une lampe.
18 Ne vous rappelez plus |les événements du passé,
ne considérez plus |les choses d’autrefois ;
19 je vais réaliser |une chose nouvelle,
elle germe dès à présent,
ne la reconnaîtrez-vous pas ?
J’ouvrirai un chemin |à travers le désert
et je ferai jaillir |des fleuves dans la steppe ;
20 les animaux sauvages,
les chacals, les autruches, |célébreront ma gloire,
car je ferai jaillir |de l’eau dans le désert,
des fleuves dans la steppe,
pour abreuver mon peuple, |celui que j’ai élu.
21 Je l’ai formé pour moi :
il proclamera ma louange.
Dieu accuse
22 Et pourtant, ô Jacob, |tu n’as pas fait appel à moi !
Tu t’es lassé de moi, |ô Israël !
23 Tu ne m’as pas offert |d’agneaux en holocaustes,
tes sacrifices |n’étaient pas à ma gloire ;
je ne t’ai pas importuné |pour avoir des offrandes,
je ne t’ai pas lassé |pour avoir de l’encens.
24 Tu n’as pas dépensé d’argent pour moi, |pour du roseau aromatique,
et tu ne m’as pas rassasié |de la graisse des sacrifices.
Mais toi, tu m’as importuné |par tes péchés,
tu m’as lassé |par tes forfaits !
Dieu pardonne
25 Mais c’est moi, et moi seul, |qui efface tes transgressions |par égard pour moi-même,
je ne tiendrai plus compte |de tes péchés.
26 Rappelle-moi ce qu’il en est, |entrons ensemble en jugement
et, pour te justifier, |expose donc ton cas.
27 Déjà, ton premier père[c] |a péché envers moi
et ceux des tiens qui ont la charge |d’interpréter la Loi |m’ont été infidèles.
28 Aussi ai-je déshonoré
les chefs du sanctuaire
et j’ai livré Jacob |à l’extermination,
Israël aux outrages.
Quand Dieu répandra son Esprit
44 Et maintenant, écoute, |Jacob, mon serviteur,
Israël, toi que j’ai choisi,
2 voici ce que déclare l’Eternel, |lui qui t’a fait,
qui t’a formé |dès le sein de ta mère
et qui est ton soutien :
Ne sois pas effrayé,
Jacob, mon serviteur,
toi, Yeshouroun[d], |que j’ai choisi.
3 Je répandrai des eaux |sur le sol altéré,
j’en ferai ruisseler |sur une terre aride,
oui, je répandrai mon Esprit |sur ta postérité
et ma bénédiction |sur ta progéniture.
4 Ils germeront |au milieu de l’herbage
comme les peupliers |près des cours d’eau.
5 Un tel confessera : |« Je suis à l’Eternel »,
tel autre se dira |un enfant de Jacob,
un autre encore |écrira sur sa main : |« Je suis à l’Eternel »
et il se parera |de ce nom d’Israël.
Le Premier et le Dernier
6 Ainsi dit l’Eternel, |lui, le Roi d’Israël,
le Seigneur des armées célestes,
et qui l’a délivré :
Moi, je suis le premier |et je suis le dernier,
et en dehors de moi, |il n’y a pas de dieu[e].
7 Qui est semblable à moi ?
Qu’il le déclare donc !
Qu’il fasse donc savoir |et qu’il m’expose
les événements du passé |depuis que j’ai fondé |il y a bien longtemps ce peuple.
Qu’il annonce d’avance |ce qui doit arriver !
8 Ne vous effrayez pas |et n’ayez pas de crainte !
Depuis longtemps déjà, |je vous ai informés, |je vous l’ai fait savoir.
Vous êtes mes témoins.
Existe-t-il un autre Dieu que moi ?
Il n’y a pas d’autre Rocher !
Je n’en connais aucun !
Comment on fabrique des dieux
9 Ceux qui fabriquent des idoles |ne sont tous que néant,
et ces œuvres qui leur sont chères |ne sont d’aucun profit.
Leurs témoins ne voient rien
et ils ne savent rien ;
ils connaîtront la honte.
10 A quoi bon faire un dieu,
couler une statue,
qui ne procure aucun profit ?
11 Voici : tous leurs fidèles |seront couverts de honte,
car ceux qui les ont fabriqués |ne sont que des humains !
Qu’ils se rassemblent tous
et qu’ils se tiennent là !
Ils seront effrayés |et confus tous ensemble.
12 L’artisan ferronnier |appointe son burin,
le passe dans les braises
et, à coups de marteau, |façonne son idole,
avec la force de son bras.
Mais, sitôt qu’il a faim,
il n’a plus d’énergie,
et s’il ne boit pas d’eau,
le voilà qui faiblit[f] !
13 Et voici le sculpteur : |il a tendu sa corde,
trace l’œuvre à la craie
puis, avec le ciseau, |il l’exécute,
et il la dessine au compas.
Il la façonne ainsi |d’après la forme humaine,
et à la ressemblance |d’un homme magnifique
pour qu’elle habite un sanctuaire.
14 Il a coupé des cèdres,
ou bien il s’est choisi |du cyprès ou du chêne
qu’il a laissé |devenir bien robuste
parmi les arbres des forêts,
ou bien il prend un pin |qu’il a planté lui-même,
que la pluie a fait croître.
15 Or, l’homme se sert de ces bois |pour les brûler,
il en prend une part |pour se chauffer,
il allume le feu |pour y cuire son pain.
Avec le même bois, |il fait un dieu,
et il l’adore ;
il fabrique une idole
et se prosterne devant elle.
16 La moitié de ce bois, |il l’a livrée au feu ;
grâce à cette moitié, |il mange de la viande,
il fait cuire un rôti, |et il s’en rassasie.
De ce bois il se chauffe et dit :
« Qu’il fait bon avoir chaud
et voir la belle flamme ! »
17 Quant au reste du bois, |il en fait une idole, |il la prend pour son dieu,
il se prosterne devant elle |et il l’adore.
Il l’invoque et lui dit : |« Délivre-moi
car toi, tu es mon dieu ! »
18 Ils sont sans connaissance, |ils ne comprennent rien.
On a bouché leurs yeux
afin qu’ils ne voient pas,
on a fermé leur cœur |afin qu’ils ne saisissent pas.
19 Aucun ne réfléchit,
aucun n’a de savoir
ni assez de raison |pour se dire en lui-même :
« J’ai brûlé la moitié |de mon bois dans le feu,
j’ai aussi cuit du pain |sur les braises du bois,
j’ai rôti de la viande |dont je me suis nourri,
et de ce qui restait, |j’ai fait une abomination,
je me suis prosterné |devant un bout de bois ! »
20 Il se repaît de cendres,
car son cœur abusé |l’a mené dans l’erreur,
il ne sauvera pas sa vie
et ne dira jamais :
« Ce que je tiens en main, |n’est-ce pas une tromperie ? »
L’Eternel rachète son peuple
21 Souviens-toi de cela, |ô peuple de Jacob !
Souviens-toi, Israël : |tu es mon serviteur,
c’est moi qui t’ai formé, |tu es mon serviteur,
ô Israël, |je ne t’oublierai pas[g].
22 J’ai effacé tes crimes |comme un épais nuage
et tes péchés comme un brouillard.
Reviens à moi,
car je t’ai délivré.
23 Exulte d’allégresse, ô ciel,
car l’Eternel |est entré en action.
Poussez des cris de joie, |profondeurs de la terre !
Criez de joie, montagnes,
et vous aussi, forêts, |ainsi que tous vos arbres,
car l’Eternel a délivré Jacob,
il a manifesté sa gloire |en Israël.
Le retour de l’exil
24 Voici ce que déclare |l’Eternel, ton libérateur,
celui qui t’a formé |dès le sein maternel :
Oui, c’est moi, l’Eternel, |qui ai fait toutes choses.
Moi seul j’ai déployé le ciel,
j’ai étendu la terre, |sans aucune aide.
25 Je rends vains les présages |des diseurs de mensonges,
j’ôte la raison aux devins,
je repousse les sages,
je fais tourner leur science |en déraison[h].
26 J’accomplis la parole |prononcée par mon serviteur
et je fais réussir les plans |annoncés par mes messagers.
C’est moi, moi qui ai dit |au sujet de Jérusalem :
« Qu’elle soit habitée ! »
et concernant les villes de Juda :
« Qu’elles soient rebâties ! »
Oui, j’en relèverai les ruines.
27 J’ordonne aux eaux profondes :
« Asséchez-vous,
je vais tarir vos fleuves. »
28 Et je dis de Cyrus[i] : |« C’est mon berger,
et il accomplira |tout ce que je désire. »
Il dira de Jérusalem :
« Qu’elle soit rebâtie »,
et il dira du Temple :
« Posez ses fondations ! »
