Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness;^(A)
make a straight highway for our God in the desert.^(B)

¹⁶ I will lead the blind by a way they did not know;^(A)
I will guide them on paths they have not known.
I will turn darkness to light in front of them^(B)
and rough places into level ground.^(C)
This is what I will do for them,
and I will not abandon them.^(D)

¹⁹ Look, I am about to do something new;^(A)
even now it is coming. Do you not see it?
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness,^(B)
rivers^[a] in the desert.

¹¹ I will make all my mountains into a road,
and my highways will be raised up.^(A)

¹⁰ Wasn’t it you who dried up the sea,^(A)
the waters of the great deep,
who made the sea-bed into a road
for the redeemed to pass over?^(B)

¹⁴ He said,
“Build it up, build it up, prepare the way,
remove every obstacle from my people’s way.”^(A)

¹⁰ Go out, go out through the city gates;
prepare a way for the people!
Build it up, build up the highway;^(A)
clear away the stones!
Raise a banner for the peoples.^(B)
