5 Who marked off its dimensions?^(C) Surely you know!
    Who stretched a measuring line^(D) across it?

    or who laid its cornerstone^(F)—
⁷ while the morning stars^(G) sang together^(H)

9 when I made the clouds its garment
    and wrapped it in thick darkness,^(M)
10 when I fixed limits for it^(N)
    and set its doors and bars in place,^(O)
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;^(P)
    here is where your proud waves halt’?^(Q)

³     and lays the beams^(A) of his upper chambers on their waters.^(B)
He makes the clouds^(C) his chariot^(D)
    and rides on the wings of the wind.^(E)
4 He makes winds his messengers,^[a](F)
    flames of fire^(G) his servants.

⁵ He set the earth^(H) on its foundations;^(I)
    it can never be moved.
⁶ You covered it^(J) with the watery depths^(K) as with a garment;
    the waters stood^(L) above the mountains.
